Sometimes it is necessary to go to the village, at least to see all our original processes. This is the jute retting process. When the jute plant is 120-150 days old, 15-20 plants are cut from the base, tied together and immersed in water.
So that the jute plant does not float on the water, banana/soil/mud is placed on top. When placed in water, the bacteria in the water and the pectin in the bark of the fenugreek plant break down, resulting in the inner stick and the outer ash. After 10-15 days, the farmer separates the stick and ash by hand. That is the fiber/golden ash of jute which can be used to make ropes, bags, clothes, mats, and swings.
