Con el paso de tiempo me he dado cuenta que las personas puede ser multitalentosas. Es decir que, pueden tener uno o varios talentos. Poder tener la capacidad de aprender cosas o la habilidad para desarrollar una actividad significa que tienes un talento, solo que en algunas ocasiones no lo notamos o no lo reconocemos como tal porque se nos da con mucha facilidad.

No por la idea de mostrarnos humildes sino que para nosotros es tan común que pudiera ser menospreciado. En ese momento entraría en juego la opinión de los demás, seguramente nuestra familia o amigos nos harán notar y reconocer mejor nuestras habilidades.

Ya sea alabando algo que hemos hecho o haciéndonos notar que no es tan sencillo hacer lo que hacemos o incluso que podemos marcar la diferencia. En el post de hoy le hablaré de uno de mis talentos, porque puedo reconocer que tengo varios como seguramente ustedes tendrán. La verdad pensaba escribir una cosa, pero en cuanto empecé a escribir ya estoy enfocándome en otra cosa.

Quizás lo más importante que yo deseo que se lleve cualquier persona que lea esta publicación es que todos tenemos talentos y que podemos seguir desarrollando más si así lo deseamos. Claro que hay cosas innatas, pero hay otra que con constancia y práctica se pueden aprender.

Si soy sincera, yo no sé cómo adquirí esta habilidad. Yo supongo que durante mi entrenamiento universitario, que ha sido extenso y toda la experiencia he tenido mucha práctica. Por ello, aunque en mi vida suelo ser un poco desordena en el trabajo soy diferente.

Definitivamente, creo que trabajar en los laboratorios también me ha impactado. Porque me da por clasificarlo todo: “las cosas de vidrio van en aquel espacio y lo metal por allá”. Incluso la distribución del espacio la considero para desplazarme lo menos posibles. En fin soy una optimizadora del tiempo. Me gusta que cada vez se tenga más eficiencia y tanto los diseños de muestreo como los experimentos son modificados para ir aumentar la capacidad de respuesta.

Al principio como todo. Y como en cualquier experiencia, todo es más lento, se comenten más errores, aunque me gusta anticiparme y trato de controlar todo, planteándome varios escenarios, siempre ocurren imprevistos que hay que abordar en sitio. En esos casos hay que ser rápido y tomar la mejor decisión posible para abordar las situaciones. Pero en eso también podemos entrenarnos

Entonces yo considero que tengo habilidad para la ciencia porque puedo plantear un diseño de campo y de laboratorio pensando en todo los procesos para obtener de forma confiable, fácil y rápida buenos resultados. En estos últimos años he puesto mucho en práctica esas habilidades, sobre todo en cuanto a la utilización de cosas comunes y de menor costo para poder hacer de los procedimientos de laboratorio que utilizo algo más económico, fácil de adquirir y encontrar en el país y además generando la menor cantidad de contaminantes para mí eso es muy importante. Y eso se ha convertido en uno de mis talentos. Probablemente no hago cosas extraordinarias, sino que hago lo posible que esas cosas que parezcan complicadas no lo sean tanto, porque las adapto a nuestra realidad.

De la misma manera cada vez que alguien requiere un tema de trabajo de ascenso o tesis solo intercambiando algunas palabras, yo puedo encontrar un tema que se adapte y plantear los objetivos generales y específicos e incluso un poco del abordaje metodológico y, no solo en mi área de experticia, sino en otras muy distintas a la mía.

La verdad no se cómo para mi resulta fácil, quizás algunos tengan las respuestas y estén rodeados de las posibilidades para diseñar sus trabajos, pero no logran verlo y ahí entro yo en el juego. Les muestro lo que pueden hacer y comienza la magia.

Yo disfruto mucho ver cómo se va construyendo todo y luego se obtiene el producto y se alcanza la meta. Me gusta compartir ese talento y lo pongo en práctica frecuentemente. Por eso, decidí hablar este día de mi talento científico. Yo espero que este talento se siga fortaleciendo en mí para poder lograr financiamiento y proyectos que serán de utilidad para continuar con mis investigaciones y proyectos de ciencia ciudadana relacionados con la basura marina, microplásticos y la conservación de los océanos y, a la vez para motivar al estudio de la ciencia en mi país.

Over time I have come to realize that people can be multi-talented. That is to say, they can have one or several talents. To be able to have the ability to learn things or the ability to develop an activity means that you have a talent, just that sometimes we do not notice it or do not recognize it as such because it is given to us very easily.

Not because of the idea of being humble, but because for us it is so common that it could be underestimated. At that moment the opinion of others would come into play, surely our family or friends will make us notice and recognize our abilities better.

Either by praising something we have done or by making us notice that it is not so easy to do what we do or even that we can make a difference. In today's post, I will tell you about one of my talents because I can recognize that I have several as I'm sure you will have. I was actually planning to write one thing, but as soon as I started writing I am already focusing on something else.

Perhaps the most important thing that I want anyone who reads this publication to take away is that we all have talents and that we can continue to develop more if we want to. Of course, there are some things that are innate, but there are others that with perseverance and practice can be learned.

If I am honest, I don't know how I acquired this ability. I would guess that during my university training, which has been extensive and all the experience I have had a lot of practice. So, although in my life I tend to be a bit messy at work I am different.

I definitely think working in labs has had an impact on me as well. Because I like to classify everything: "the glass things go in that space and the metal over there". Even the distribution of space I consider it to move as little as possible. In short, I am a time optimizer. I like to be more and more efficient and both the sampling designs and the experiments are modified to increase the response capacity.

In the beginning like everything else. And as in any experience, everything is slower, more mistakes are made, although I like to anticipate and try to control everything, considering several scenarios, there are always unforeseen events that must be addressed on site. In those cases, you have to be quick and make the best possible decision to deal with the situation. But we can also train ourselves in that.

So I consider that I have a knack for science because I can approach field and laboratory design by thinking through all the processes to reliably, easily and quickly obtain good results. In recent years I have put these skills into practice, especially in terms of the use of common and lower cost things to make the laboratory procedures I use more economical, easy to acquire and find in the country and also generating the least amount of pollutants for me that is very important. And that has become one of my talents. I probably don't do extraordinary things, but I do what I can so that those things that seem complicated are not so complicated because I adapt them to our reality.

In the same way, every time someone requires a topic for a promotion or thesis work, just by exchanging a few words, I can find a topic that fits and set out the general and specific objectives and even a bit of the methodological approach, not only in my area of expertise but also in other areas very different from mine.

The truth is that I don't know how easy it is for me, maybe some people have the answers and are surrounded by the possibilities to design their work, but they can't see it and that's where I come into the game. I show them what they can do and the magic begins.

I really enjoy watching it all build up and then you get the product and reach the goal. I like to share that talent and I put it into practice frequently. That is why I decided to talk about my scientific talent today. I hope that this talent will continue to strengthen in me so that I can get funding and projects that will be useful to continue my research and citizen science projects related to marine debris, microplastics, and ocean conservation and, at the same time to motivate the study of science in my country.
