Well, that was disappointing, we beat Haiti 2-1 but didn't make it to the next round because Qatar beat Mexico. that was actually amazing, I did not really think Honduras would beat Haiti but Qatar beating Mexico is as big a surprise as any.
This of course gives rise to speculation in Honduras that Mexico wanted us out, and let Qatar beat them. This is the simplistic way to look at things and is no more than an excuse. We started out very poorly losing 4-0 against Mexico, a game that I personally thought would end with an eight goal difference. Then Qatar was winning against us for most of the game until a 94th minute equalizer.
And today we beat Haiti, I have to be honest, Haiti were not given two penalty shots so instead of complaining about Mexico's loss we should be thankful for a quite shady refereeing which helped us out. Now don't get me wrong, Honduras deserved the win against Haiti, Haiti has very good players but I think the game got on their nerves. Yes, if they had been given both penalties they could have won, but if they only managed a draw Qatar would have still been the team to go through.
Well, we are out, I must say the team played better than I expected, except against Mexico of course. But we drew against a good Qatar side and we did beat Haiti and played better than them, OK, the referee made two big mistakes but that does not take away from the fact Honduras played a very good game. As for the Gold Cup, it is actually a two horse race, with mainly Mexico and USA taking most of the titles excepting one win by Canada.
