Though I be beaten
By the needling rain of misfortune
With no friends to umbrella me
I'll not be intimidated
By the rambling of thunder and fire.

Though I be caught
Between the devil and the blue sea
Not for a second
Will I bury my head in self-pity
For the devil's neck awaits my cross.

Though I be trapped
In the cave of calamities
And encircled by fierce lions
I'll stand unafraid and unshaken
Because those who kill my body
Are incapable of killing my soul.
