Preparing the Paint: Lime, Salt, and Aloe Vera
My greetings and respect to everyone. I want to share with you today that I was hired to work next Monday. The job consists of painting an entire patio, but since it is too much space to cover, we made the decision to use a preparation of lime, salt, and aloe vera to give it consistency and thickness. To be honest, it is a natural mixture that I have seen work before, and I am curious to see the final result.
The first mission of the day was to get salt water to be able to mix the lime, so I went to the beach to fill a jug with seawater, which has an ideal concentration for our preparation. Quite beautiful, to be honest. Walking to the beach early in the morning, with the sound of the waves and the fresh breeze, made the task feel less like work and more like a small adventure.
My mom had already allowed me to use quite a few aloe vera leaves — to be honest, many of them. Through a rather unpleasant procedure due to their strong smell, I removed the green skin to leave only the viscous crystal, which is what we use in this case. None of this should be done without precaution or with an uncovered face and hands. It must be done with great care, since the aloe can irritate the skin and the smell lingers longer than you would like.
It is interesting how something so simple can become such an important part of a job. The lime provides the base, the salt helps with texture, and the aloe gives it that thickness that makes it adhere better to the surface. Each ingredient has its purpose, and together they form a mixture that has been used for generations.
Without anything more to refer to, stay tuned for future publications, since I will be sharing the painting process, which will consist of 2 days corresponding to Monday and Tuesday. I am eager to show you how this preparation works in practice and whether the result meets our expectations. Thank you for reading my publication.
