By the time this letter finds you
The mouth of the fish
Would have been cold and silent
And the eternal light
At the end of the tunnel
Would have been put out
In these final moments, however
I remember the dimples in your cheeks
The charm in your eyes
The din of your footsteps in the dark
Those nights my chest pillowed your head
The pitter-pattering of the rain
And the umbrella we shared
On the windy night we met.
But tonight, I shall put off the flames
Of the memories we shared
Let the ink of this pen
And this crisp paper it romances
Bear me witness, goodbye.
