In my 934 days on steem I've met a lot of pretty cool people - The great thing about steem is that it's brought people I would never normally meet onto my radar. It's quite possible some would never engage with me in real life, without steem having provided that exposure and engagement first, and so I'm really grateful.
One of the coolest of the cool people I have met is Yeti, (@freedompoint) a pretty straight-up guy from the US of A, who calls it how he sees it, leaves pretension and ego at the door (probably possesses none of either to be honest) and has a great deal of skill in making knives.
He also has a lot of wisdom in that noggin of his which comes out in his posts sometimes. He's worth checking out if you haven't already. Follow the Yeti-link above if you like. Oh, he enjoys his coffee too, you'll see what I mean if you watch the video below.
Anyway, I decided I'd like to own one of his hand made knives so we connected on Discord and started planning it out. The link below is to his first post about what he has dubbed the Down-Under build. It shows some pretty interesting pre-video warm up techniques also...We can all learn a lot there for real! Check it out if you like as it will introduce my knife and show the first initial stage of crafting it. You can also see a shot of my knife above, an image I received today. This is from stage two of the build.
Down-under build intro post day one
Here's the day two video, which has just gone live, it shows how the knife is progressing.
I'm pretty excited about the knife to be honest. I know, you may be thinking "it's just a knife bro", but it's really not. Not even close. This knife is, and will be, something extremely special. Hand made, for me, by a master craftsman on the other side of the world. Just a knife? Nope.
Yeti's down-under knife will take pride of place among the many knives and blades I own. Like he says in the video-piece, I'm going to use it...As a guy who hunts, culls and is always in the outback the blade will see plenty of use and I'm sure I will always remember its maker and appreciate the effort that went into crafting it.
It will probably be several weeks until I get it depending on how fast he works and how fast the postal service is. We agreed on a price which I'll leave Yeti to disclose if he feels inclined and I'll be paying for postage too...Who knows, I may send him back a jar of Vegemite too...He needs to take his Australian-ness to the next level judging by the video although he did pronouce "mate" pretty well - Good on you cobber, bonza pronunciation! We all know that Vegemite is the only way to increase Australian-ness - More new Australian's should start eating it...But that's another post altogether and not one for now.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share this little story as I think it's cool the way steem has brought together individuals from all over the world in an environment where they can share, grow and develop together - And buy knives. Sure, there's a certain element who hold themselves apart from the greater community working against it, but in the main it's a good place to be, don't you think?
