A few days ago my steem account turned two years old. Tuesday June 13 2017 was when my account went live and whilst this milestone will mean absolutely nothing to others, to me it represents twenty four months of effort.
In the two years, to date including this post on the 17th June 2019, (735 days of posting) I have made 1051 posts. That's 1.42 posts per day. I've also made 10.97 comments per day over that same period on average.
I started full of excitement and hope that this platform would grow and develop into something viable, be a place to explore and present my creativity and thought and possibly become a mainstream platform. Of course a little reward was on my mind also. I was keen, almost impatient, to see where we would be two years from the day I began. Now, two years later...We're still sort of nowhere really.
I think forward progress has been impeded by greed and ego, (typical human traits), and by the unwillingness for some of those at the very top to work on driving the platform forward positively. Instead I see a lot of selfishness and idiotic behaviour from larger and influential accounts. How can we expect to attract new users when those at the top, and others, act like a bunch of ass-hats?! Still, it's their prerogative I guess. Anyway, I keep hearing murmurings about us being early adopters and all however I believe that if attitudes don't change neither will the outlook for the future.
I wonder if I'll be writing a fourth year anniversary post around the 13th of June 2021...What do you think? Do you think I'll be blogging 1.42 times a day over the next two years as I have for the last two?
What I do know is that I want steem to survive and thrive and each of us will have to play a role in that. I don't know what my role is exactly however I know that things need to progress and attitudes need to change for this "decentralised" platform to work out. I'm hoping HF21 offers up some benefit and a path forward towards a bright future in which we can all thrive. There's a few changes in the pipeline and my hope is those changes benefit all, not just the larger accounts some of who (in my humble opinion) seem intent only on furnishing themselves with income rather than growing and developing steem for all to enjoy and prosper.
