Sometimes life just happens - It goes awry, doesn't work out to plan or just plain sucks. My week started like that with Monday being a day I'd sooner forget.
Tuesday morning started well...It was like the storm had lifted, the dark clouds and rain receding into the distance leaving that clean, fresh after-storm scent in the air with the promise of better times ahead. It's amazing the affect good people can have on a person.
But it ended up kicking my ass.
I mean, my work day. It was one of those reactive not proactive days that I hate so much. I went home totally drained, worn out and, I'll be honest, grumpy.
Wednesday
I had an amazing chat with someone I value greatly, got to work, the chat continued, and then I knuckled down to it to do what I do. All Legit.
About an hour later: Not legit.
I wear boots at work, not shoes. These boots are R.M. Williams boots to be precise. This iconic Australian outback outfitter has been handcrafting boots since 1932 and they are, quite simply, the best. Hands down, no question.
I have a couple pairs of these in black and chestnut and I love them; Great with a suit or jeans! Of course I like to keep my boots cleaned and polished...One can tell a lot about a person from their footwear and when I am at work I need to present like I mean business. So, I care for them.
Today's problem
In the building next to my own there is a corridor in which there sits a very cool powered shoe polisher. It has a buff for brown and black shoes and it spins so pleasingly well, at high speed, ensuring my boots always look good. I hand polish them monthly, but daily I head over there and partake of that boot polisher. Totally legit!
Today, the fateful Wednesday, though...No boot polisher in the corridor. My boots went unpolished and I feel somewhat cheated!
Don't they know who the fuck I am?
OK, just to be clear...I'm totally nobody at all. Literally nobody! But they don't know that! Where's my fucking boot polisher y'all!
Who the hell do they think they are removing their boot polisher; Paid for by them, powered by them, in their building? No damned respect I say!
And so...My bad run this week continues.
I've snuck over to that corridor every day for a few years now and my boots...Well, they look amazing. It takes the pressure off having to polish and buff them to perfection by hand; A cursory job is satisfactory when I can go to that corridor and give them a bit of love on my their boot polisher. Now? What am I to do?
Don't they know that in removing their boot polisher it negatively impacts my life?
Building next door - That's not legit!
Today's turn of events has left me wondering if my life will ever turn around...Will I ever have cause to smile again...Will my boots ever look as good as they did yesterday? All good questions I guess. But ones only time will reveal.
I'm going to sneak over there tomorrow to check if my their boot polisher is back...And on the next and the next day too. I don't like doing it, the corridor is totally unappealing after all, but I'll do it...Just to see if they have returned it. Maybe it's out for service? Maybe they have traded it in on the latest technology boot polisher? I don't know...But I live in hope that it shall return and all will be well in the world once more.
And now what about y'all?
Have you taken liberties with someone else's stuff like this? Yes, I know it's theirs and I was pushing my luck using it so I say liberties. Drop your, I used their shit and got away with it comments below.
