Happy Saturday hivers, I hope your day has been good, or has started well if it's only just getting going. Mine is heading towards evening as it's after 6pm here in Australia, but it's been a great day, a lovely blue-skied 24 degrees, and we spent at the zoo.
The day kicked off with breakfast with a friend of ours, just a small gathering at a local caf茅 to mark my wife Faith's birthday today, and my friends' also which is on Monday; She doesn't have family here and doesn't know too many people so we invited her to our breakfast this morning. It was very tasty and we hade a few laughs.
Straight afterwards Faith and I picked up her mum and headed to the zoo for the day which is where the pictures in this post have come from. These are right from the camera as I'm not one to edit photos, mainly because I don't really know how, or can't be bothered spending the time, so I hope they're passable from a quality perspective.
Tonight I'm making dinner for the three of us; Faith and I are also celebrating our wedding anniversary today, 27 years of marriage, and because of a few complications with her mum we're not going out. I'm the chef tonight though, so right after I post this I'm off to the kitchen to get started.
Meerkats are one of my favourite animals; I could sit and watch these funny little things all day. They dig, play-fight, stand watch and generally lark about all day...When they're not sleeping of course.
Here's a cat of another kind altogether. I snapped this through the wire fence which you can probably tell in the photo. The lions roam free at the Monarto zoo about 70 kilometres out of Adelaide which I have written about before, but it would be somewhat problematic to let them do so in the Adelaide zoo...Too many people you see.
I was surprised to see a pelican enclosure at the zoo; It's been a while since we went and it must be a new innovation brought in after the demise of the last flamingo that died a while ago. I see these things almost every day anyway, although it was nice to get up close, and whilst they're a funny looking thing they are also quite a beautiful bird.
This little guy is probably one of the most recognisable of Australian animals. This one was pretty huge, and also very sleepy. I waited about twenty minutes for this koala to wake up and look at me. I captured the photo in the few seconds it took this little fellow to reshuffle his position and fall asleep again. What a life.
This long-necked lady had a perfect view over one of the meerkat enclosures although wasn't interested in those funny little things; She had a little baby with her and was more concerned about what he was doing...He was eating in case you're wondering. I love giraffes and find them really majestic and kind of prehistoric. I would rather see a live T-rex, but giraffe's are cool too right?
Here's one of the most unique of animals...The G-dog. You can see it captured here with it's mate, Faith...He's not sure how he managed to attract the blonde hottie next to him, nor why she sticks around, but she does and he's grateful. 馃榿 We've been together for 33 years and married for 27 today...I don't know how we did it, but we did. Here's to another 27.
Here's one of the two giant pandas at the zoo. It's hit and miss if one is going to see these two as they hide a lot but today both were out and about with this one being a little energetic and moving around.
This macaw was walking around on the ground foraging and unfortunately the enclosure was mostly in shade but I managed to grab this photo...How about that colour!
This old fellow looked a bit sad and I guess if I was trapped in an enclosure I would be too. Having said that, this old bloke has a pretty big space with loads of things to play with so I guess maybe he just looked sad because he lost his hair brush?
The zoo has a few bird enclosures which can be entered by visitors; The birds fly around inside and it's really cool as people can get up quite close to them...Here's a red beaked parrot eagle...Ok, that's not what it really is, but I don't know the name so that's what I'm calling it.
I don't know what this one is called either so I'm going to call it a "long-legged beaky bird" which sounds totally legit right? The photo doesn't show it but the colouring in the sun was amazing.
So, that's about it for now. I have some other pictures but I'll probably just share them some other time.
Right now I have to go and start dinner because Faith and her mum are getting hungry. I'll be honest, I was hoping they'd get sick of waiting and start dinner themselves...But no luck on that front. Oh well, it was worth a shot. 馃榿
I hope y'all have a great weekend and if you're looking for somewhere to engage with other hivers try the #weekend-engagement topic for this week, found right here.
Ok y'all, I better go start dinner before I get into trouble!
