The most important thing is to enjoy your life - to be happy - it's all that matters.
- Audrey Hepburn -
I'm not always happy and never believe people who say they are; life is full of ups and downs and it's impossible to be constantly happy in my opinion but I'm happy right now and that's good enough. I'm happy because it's a long weekend, Monday is a day off, and that's glorious.
I've got plans and have planned time for nothing...I mean, 'planned nothingness' - try it yourself, it's fucken awesome - which means I've planned in some time to do whatever happens in that moment and I'm looking forward to it. One of my fixed plans was to go to the gun range and that happened this morning. I'm writing this after having been there, talked shit with some people, sent three hundred rounds downrange in run-and-gun-(controlled)-mayhem, come home, had lunch, cleaned my handguns and had a cup of tea; I'm feeling rather satisfied.
I brought my girl to the range today, something she doesn't usually do, and it was nice to have her there.
She's way more popular than I am at the range, something to do with her being sexy and a really nice person, and she handles it well. It's actually funny, people act differently when she's there; some pull back and go quiet, some try to show off and the real cunts try to hit on her...She knows what's up though and handles herself well.
What I find hilarious is those who feel like they have to treat her like a firearms novice which, of course because she's my gal, she is certainly not.
I've taught her how to shoot at long range, because long range shooting is what I'm super-good at doing, and she can put rounds on targets all day long at 1,000 metres, (1093.61 yards) with my long guns; I've also taught her how to operate handguns (including running and gunning) at an above average level. I love handgun shooting and am good at it but I prefer long range rifle shooting as does she however she operates with a handgun very well and is easy to teach - most women are actually, they have less of an ego than the men so listen more intently.
Occasionally she'll come to the range and some who may not know her proficiency with firearms seem to feel the need to instruct her which she accepts because she's polite...then she straps on her holster rig and starts running and gunning and those poor fuckers are like, what the fuck!
Today she had a shoot on the village range which is a building complex set up like a little 'town' in which we run and gun, kick doors and all...the military call it a 'kill box' - a three-dimensional shooting range. She was a little rusty because she doesn't shoot weekly like I do and does not have the training I have but she was awesome to watch; what's more, she loved it and I really enjoyed her being there and that she got to shoot a little - some 200 rounds - it's really a nice stress reliever.
Going to the range is always enjoyable but going with my partner along as well is much better.
Sometimes she comes to support me in competitions, (she reloads my magazines, makes sure I'm hydrated and fed and wrangles my equipment and cheers me on or consoles me when I fuck up), and sometimes she shoots like she did today; either way it's good to have her there and it was a nice start to the weekend.
When we got home she offered to help clean the guns, something she hates so passionately - hates the smell of the solvent which I understand because it stays on the hands for a long time - but I said I'd do it. The cool thing is that she offered though, and the cooler thing is that she actually knows how to do it...she's a keeper.
Firearms are an enigma to most people but to me they are simply a tool. I don't love them, they perform a job just like any tool does, but having them comes with responsibility and that's why I have taken the time to train my partner in their safe operation and how to care for them.
It's funny to me that people pre-judge her as someone who is clueless which I guess happens due to the way she looks, but it's funnier when she comes along and out-shoots them at the range...That makes me happy and proud and being happy makes me happier.
So...what makes you happy? Feel free to comment if you want to and if you don't want to then do not...whatever makes you happy.
