I've been weight lifting today, but not your conventional gym-session lifting...Safe lifting!
Today I engaged the help, and muscles, of two of my buddies to assist in moving my new safe into my workshop and it was heavy work!
Lifting it into my trailer, then out again and moving into place in my workshop required a lot of man-handling and ingenuity plus a couple of rolling platforms and pry-bars...But it's in place now. (It was a bit of a mission to be honest, but we were victorious.)
With all of that lifting and shoving you'd think the safe was massive but it's actually not. I bought it for handgun storage as my other safe was getting a little full and the safe itself only stands about a metre high and just over 55cm wide...So not huge, certainly nowhere near as large as my rifle safes. Small but bloody heavy!
I'm pretty pleased with it as I picked it up second hand from a friend and paid a third of the retail price I would have paid at a shop so I'm feeling like a winner. It's in pristine condition too. Score!
Anyway, it's in now and is already full.
Whilst my buddies were here we were chatting about security and one suggested a motion sensor and screamer alarm for my workshop.
I poo poo'd the idea because of the cost and he told me how much he set his own up for and that raised my interest level as it was much cheaper than I had expected.
Here in Australia gun storage is regulated depending on the number and category of firearms a person, or business holds. I have rifles, shotguns and handguns so am required to have a particular class of safe, over a certain weight or fixed to the building. The class of safe relates to the gauge of steel, locking mechanisms, pry-proof recessed doors etc.
My gun storage is already compliant of course but it seems for under $150 I can add a motion sensor and screamer to my workshop and enjoy that additional level of security. I'm in!
I'll be honest, if someone wanted what was in my safes they would get it, screamer alarm or not, however having that additional layer of security will increase my compliance with the firearms branch and will probably make my insurer happier too.
I'm on the hunt for the bits now and hope to have something up and running within a few weeks...
...Now to rest my weary muscles...Safe lifting is hard work! (Bro).
