I don't think I have a specific time to read. I pick up a book when there is an interest in knowing what story, revelation or theory it may contain. That is just the time when I am most inclined to read page after page, enjoying all the possibilities an author has to offer me.
However, I would like to say that an extra joy sparkles within me when I read where there is a great illumination. Perhaps, this is why I prefer to read during the day rather than even when dusk falls.
No matter if it is sunlight or artificial light, I enjoy being in a space where I can read with total clarity the rows of letters that enclose lives, places or entire worlds.
Come to think of it, isn't it fascinating how things, as a small book, communicate aspects as vast as existence itself? The cosmos in our hands.
Without hesitation, one thing that makes me enjoy a book is an interesting narrative thread. It doesn't matter if it's a novel, a selection of short stories or even a school text. If it has something out of the everyday's monotony that surrounds us everywhere, then I will be sinking into the book.
Naturally, I love to find unusual characters or scenarios that make me see my own reality from another perspective. That is, they allow me to know points of view that I didn't know before about existential aspects with which I, as well as any human being, could deal with at some point.
Now, being a little less reflective, I confess that I really enjoy reading books with good humor. I think laughing at things you hear or see can be easy. But, when it comes to laughing while reading a book, it seems to me that it is something more complex but, at the same time, it is also one of the most rewarding experiences in life.
As I said before, I like to read in well-lit spaces. It does not matter if it is closed or open. Besides this, I don't consider that there is a particular space in which I always like to read. On the contrary, I enjoy reading in as many different spaces as possible.
Those various places where I read regularly make me feel fresh, excited and, overall, really focused on what I'm going to read. Some may think otherwise (it tends to distract the reader), but over the years, I have realized that there is nothing more boring, and therefore distracting for me, than reading in the same place all the time. It's like when I always had to go to jail, I mean school.
Apart from what I said before, I would like to add that, regarding the diversity of places I have visited, I have not yet had the opportunity to read in a big bookstore-cafe or on a cruise ship. Those are reading experiences that are still on my list. I hope I can cross them out some time.
I usually focus on a plot that is easy and interesting to follow. I like it when the author is able to recreate a whole picture in my mind with simple language. Character, setting, tone, etc. are amalgamated in such an eloquent way that it's impossible not to stop for a moment to live the story on my mind. Even more, when the aforementioned elements are so well exposed, there comes a moment when I feel part of the book itself. Truly magical.
Another thing I tend to pay attention to when reading are the morals. I am a person who takes into account what others have to teach us. Therefore, I enjoy when I read an author who can help me understand life better, and consequently, be a more complete person.
