The Legend

In the Tran Gorge (a.k.a Lomnishko gorge) area there is a local legend about the cursed love between a rich woman and a poor man. They became rocks on the two sided of Erma river, so they can be always close but never together. The water of the river was filled by their tears.

Geological Aspect

The phenomena is constructed from strong limestone and it was formed about 20 000 000 years ago in a complex-structure sea. It is tight in its base, deep 120m and 150m long. Due to thousands years erosion from the tide of the river, it slowly formed a way through the rock.

Tourism

Even though the gorge is located near the border in a distant place, tourism was flourishing there in the past. Today they are signs saying "DANGER ZONE DO NOT PASS" due to the lack of maintenance. On this specific one there is a reply "FIX IT".

Even though the bridge is still stable for passing it is an adrenaline booster for many.

Obviously it has to be rebuilt. Hopefully nobody gets hurt in order for this to become a necessity.

The Beauty

Of course it is all worth it. Here is the view from the bridge.

Side shots of the gorge.

The distance between the two rocks.

The Tunnel and Other Side

After climbing some stairs there is a tunnel. It was created by the Dutch during WW2. Their idea was to build a narrow-gauge railway for the transportation of weapons. They were supposed to be used for attacking Serbia.

The war ended and the tunnel remained there. Needles to say I am disgusted by how politic decisions put two brother-like nations like Bulgaria and Serbia in such a conflict. This is a discussion for another time...

Inside it very dark, wet and cold. The view from the other side paid off the effort.

Going Back

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to leave these trips in the blockchain and have them available at any time. If you want to travel without moving around Bulgaria, check out the other in the #BulgariaIsBeautiful series. Thanks for sticking up to the end.
