Greetings to the Movies and TV Shows community. I am on Hive since October last year and I finally stumbled upon a community that discusses movies and shows! I am so excited to start posting and engaging on this channel. As my first post I wanted to share some of my favorite shows that I watched recently and really liked. As shows and movies are probably one of the most things people have in common you will note that my selection is a very wild mixture of genres. I am aware of that and it is only supposed to be a slight overview of my broad taste 😊. In the future I will certainly do a more specified selection and talk about single movies as well! With that being said, let’s take a look at some of my recent favorite shows!
HIMYM
This show is my all time favorite. “How I met Your Mother” is really a classic for me and I probably rewatched this show five or six times. I assume that everybody heard of this show and watched it at some point, but for those who are unfamiliar of it or just want a quick description, I will gladly introduce it to you! The show starts off with Ted(Josh Radnor) which is one of the five main characters in this show. The whole plot of this show is to tell his kids the complete and detailed way of how he met the mother of his children. In the first episode he is meeting one of his best friends throughout the show: Barney (Neil Patrick Harris). This character is probably the most popular in the show as he has a very childish personality but is known for getting every girl in New York City. As we go along we meet the couple Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lilly (Alyson Hannigan). Ted, Marshall and Lilly know each other since college and they are pictured as one small little family. After a couple of episodes the friend group is growing to five people as Robin (Cobie Smulders) is introduced to the show.
Like mentioned before, the whole plot around this show is how Ted’s way was towards meeting his children’s’ mother. Throughout the whole show the paths of the mother and ted are crossed but never is the mother revealed until the last season of this show. This is why this show kept so many people Infront of their TVs and displays as it was constantly tense and funny. The show finds a really good way to balance the comedic element while staying very serious and emotional. I am still feeling the emotions coming up in a few key episodes! Many people, including me, are believing that the ending of HIMYM could have been different but without taking this to account this show is an absolute generational treasure.
Attack On Titan
As we move on to the next show, you will recognize a hard jump. We are now in Anime/ Manga territory and while there are a lot of great pieces like “One Piece”, “Naruto” or “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, the anime that got me the most so far is “Attack On Titan”. While this show has not finished yet and did not find any conclusion, I must admit that I truly loved it so far, which is why this show is on this list. The first episode of this show starts off with Eren, Mikasa and Armin. These three characters will accompany each other throughout the whole show. It seems like we are in a very medieval time span as there are no cars or advanced technology whatsoever. The city these characters are living in are surrounded by big walls and it will be clear very fast why this is the case. We were thrown into a world where all of the human race is in danger of extinction. The reason for that are Titans which come in different sizes and look like big humans without any purpose to live except eating human being.
After the first episodes the enemy seems to be clear and the tone is set: Humans vs Titans and our three friends are supposed to be the three heroes that guide humanity into new and glorious times. The show does a great job to mislead the watcher every time and does not spare to show political and humanitarian problems that can be transferred into today’s society. Furthermore, the shows does not spare with deaths. Every time you are starting to sympathize with a character, he either gets killed or turns out to have a dark past or bad intensions overall. This show truly makes you lose trust in every humanity what so ever and shows once again that even during a apocalyptic scenario the biggest enemy and danger of humanity are humas themselves.
Loki
If you thought the precious transition was a hard jump, wait until this one! The next show I want to introduce is “Loki”. Now I must admit that this will not be everybody’s cup of tea as we are looking at a Marvel superhero show. In general, I must say that I very enjoy watching the current Marvel Cinematic Universe and I barely miss any new show or movie as they all tie together. This is also the reason why some of my future movie articles will be around the MCU. Saying that, I think that “Loki” is the best Marvel show that came out yet. Not only is this show very suspenseful and very nice to watch but it also has one of the coolest plots in regards to a superhero movie.
The movie starts of with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) who is getting captured by the TVA which are supposed to be somewhat of a time and space preserving organization. This happens because the Avengers have messed with the time space continuum in their biggest mission yet, but more details on that in a later article. We follow Loki throughout a series of strange and interesting events until we find out that the main bad guy of this show is supposed to be Loki itself, a deviant from another timeline. As we follow along the plot we will get hit with curve balls and in the finale the true bad guy gets revealed. The true plot twist is that how it is always in real life, there is no bad and good – black and white – evil and hero. The show does a great job of showing different perspectives and makes you emphasize with every main character which brings you into a moral debate yourself.
Breaking Bad
Last but not least I want to talk about one of the greatest shows I have ever get to watch: Breaking Bad. This show starts off with Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a high school chemistry teacher that is getting diagnosed with cancer. Because of love to his family and soon newly born child he decides to secure the future of his family by creating Crystal Meth. As he is becoming more successful he is getting torn into the whole drug universe with gangs, cartels and police. Over the course of the show he is facing very hard and cruel decisions which can be understood if you are following his view. On the other side, some of his decisions are very bad considered the view of other characters. This leads inevitably to conflicts and suspenseful situations.
The show does a great job of showing the bad decisions and has a great taste of cliff hangers. One of the critical points I would mention is that some of the episodes are known to be very boring as nothing happens. I would disagree as these episodes truly show what is going on inside a character and help you understand the decisions he is making and where he is coming from. All in all, this show is a must watch for everyone who has not watched it yet.
Conclusion & Outlook
To conclude this article, I really hope that I was able to give you some new input to watch a show that you might not watched yet. I am really open for any suggestions from your side and I will continue my posts with my favorite movies sometime this week! I am really open to feedback and hope that you can help me to improve my articles in the future 😊
