As many of you know I'm an indoor cannabis cultivator, and this is the primary plant that I grow.
I really enjoy all plant life and grow a few other things as well, but lately these other plants have taken a backseat and I am adjusting how I do things.
I really would like to apply myself at becoming better at growing cannabis, primarily because it is a cash crop that may offer me the opportunity to make a comfortable living in the future.
Currently the only way I can grow it is indoors, and if I grow other plants alongside the cannabis, then I am taking up space that I cannot really afford to take up, as well as time and mental resources, which I don't have much to spare these days.
Cannabis cultivation is still relatively new in its legalized status in New York, so working towards making a living from cultivation comes with aligning myself with legislation and business licensing in the future.
My hopes are that I can move somewhere that allots me my own land and allows for cultivation of an entire garden, full of vegetables, fruits, flowers, succulents, and more!
It's kind of sad that we live in a world where it's not possible for everyone to grow the garden of their dreams, but this is life for many people, and sometimes we just have to make due with what we have.
This is why there's so many gardeners growing things in tents these days.
In some ways it's a lot easier than growing outside in cities where so many things could go wrong, and oftentimes do. Someone stole a hot pepper off of my front porch recently. These are the kind of things that happen when growing plants outdoors in a populated city.
Right now I'm growing some clones of Big Mack Superstar and a plant that's a cross genetic between Big Mack Superstar and Miracle Mack.
I've had some issues with the plants in vegetation stage, but I think I've worked out the issues now.
I've been overfeeding them and overwatering them a bit, as well as exposing them to too much light.
I tend to go overboard with watering and feeding and am starting to get more of a feel for it.
When it comes to vegetation stage, less is not only more, it's a requirement!
I have these two unknown strain plants in small containers, about 1-2 gallon in size, and they are exhibiting signs of root bounding or overwatering/feeding. I think it's a little of all three of those things, but the extreme leaf burn and curl is making me think root bounding. I could be wrong in this analysis, but these extreme foliage burns don't seem to happen in the bigger pots, so this is why I think pot size is a factor.
These three seedlings came from the same batch of unknown strain plants. Despite the fact that I don't like putting unknown sex plants into big pots, I'm going to do that with these three, because it's important to ensure what ever females I get are in proper size pots when flowering starts.
These are some photos of the Big Mack Superstar that I harvested recently.
In some ways I am very happy with this harvest, in other ways not so much.
I'm happy with the harvest in that the bud is very good quality. I would rate it a 7 out of 10 for my overall rating, which I believe is probably more strict than most peoples cannabis ratings.
I'm not happy with the overall yield, which was 3 ounces between 3 plants, averaging one ounce per plant.
The bulk of the weight was 2.5 ounces of Big Mack Superstar, and the cross genetic plant barely crossed a half ounce of end product.
These are low numbers for the kind of equipment I have,
and I have a pretty good idea of where my mistakes and problem areas are.
Hopefully this round will bring me a better harvest, but at the end of the day I cannot complain too much because I feel blessed to be a cannabis cultivator with some decent lights and tents that make it possible to do this. It's a dream come true for me really.
