After taking photos of nature for many months, I’ve realized that some of my favorite images are not necessarily the ones I planned. Sometimes, I simply happen to be in the right place at the right time. I like to call these my lucky shots.
Bees are a good example. I don’t normally go into the garden specifically looking for them. My attention is usually on flowers, leaves, textures, and interesting patterns. But whenever a bee suddenly visits a flower while I have my camera ready, I consider myself lucky. They don’t stay still for very long, so being able to capture them in action always feels rewarding.
The same goes for an unfurling fern. There’s something fascinating about seeing the young frond still curled up before it slowly opens. It’s one of those small stages of growth that can easily be missed if we aren’t paying attention.
Another rare sight for me is a caterpillar. There are plenty of birds around the garden, so I don’t often get the chance to see caterpillars moving around the plants. Finding one and having enough time to photograph it was another lucky moment.
And then there are the surprises after the rain. I’ve always enjoyed photographing raindrops because they can transform ordinary leaves into something much more interesting. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="0"} This time, I found one leaf holding such a large amount of rainwater that I immediately had to photograph it.
I think photography has taught me to appreciate these brief moments. You can prepare your camera and practice your technique, but sometimes nature gives you something unexpected. All you have to do is notice it before the moment disappears.
