Sometimes, an ordinary walk can lead us to a sight that stays in our minds long after we return home.
That day, I was feeling bored at home, so I decided to take a walk around my village. I wandered toward the outskirts, where stretches of rice fields spread across the landscape in beautiful, terraced patterns.
But something was different.
The dry season had lasted for so long that the land was slowly losing its life. The rice fields that once captivated the eye with their lush green colors had turned dry and barren. The ground was cracked, the remaining rice stalks stood among the dust, and the landscape looked nothing like the fertile fields I remembered.
Even the irrigation channels, which had long been a lifeline for the fields, were suffering from the same fate. The water that farmers depend on was becoming increasingly scarce.
I stopped for a moment and captured what I saw with my phone.
I wanted to preserve this moment, not because the landscape was beautiful in the usual sense, but because it told a story that deserved to be remembered.
Nature seemed to be falling ill, while human beings could only place their hopes in a miracle from God.
Looking at those cracked fields, I could not help thinking about the people whose lives depend on the land. For farmers, rain is more than a change in the weather. It means hope for their crops, their livelihoods, and the future of their families.
A field that once flourished can become fragile when water disappears. And when the land suffers, the people who depend on it feel the consequences too.
I kept looking at the landscape, imagining how different it would appear after a good rainfall.
The cracked earth would slowly absorb the water. The soil would regain its moisture. Perhaps new green shoots would begin to emerge, and the rice fields would once again become a source of beauty and life.
I know that rain cannot always be expected to arrive when we want it to. Yet, as a believer, I find comfort in the hope that God can bring relief after a long period of hardship.
For now, the fields remain dry, and the village continues to wait.
If only the rain would come, the earth would rejoice again.
And perhaps, when that day arrives, the sound of raindrops falling on the thirsty soil will feel like a beautiful answer to a prayer that has been whispered for so long.
