I love chickens! They are hands down the most amazing animal. There is something about the way they are giants in their own universe.
In the past few months we have really started to homestead the crap out of this urban space. The house we are staying in is in a pretty nice neighborhood, but it is still pretty in the country.
We have built a pretty large deep mulch garden, and a whole run for chickens. I built a chicken coop using repurposed material from around the owners properties.
The chickens we got were supposed to be some really nice heritage breeds, but we all know what actually happened. We ended up with some beautiful barnyard mixes.
Today I am sharing a shot of one of my favorite birds. I can't even recall what he said they are. We have three that are a really cool marbled color.
There was talk about what sort of rooster he put in with his hens, but I can't remember what he said. I think it was a cochin. It was huge, and now the hens have feathers on their legs.
I think that every person that has any sort of yard should have chickens!
