I'm hitting you with a little Fitness Theory today. I like to keep my perspective flowing on many different aspects of life, and today is all about fitness. As I am continuing to develop the Alpha Yeti (hard body, soft heart, sharp mind) there is alot of work to be done...especially when it comes to fitness. While I am looking at examples of what an amazing physique would look like I had this thought.... Small guys can always look bigger, but can big guys look smaller.
This is coming on the heels of watching those great Marvel movies filled with superheroes and six packs. You see all of these guys that are ripped out and looking gigantic, but are they really?
Think about this. Captain America is played by Chris Evens, and after a bit of googling I found that he is only 6'0 tall and weighs 194 lbs. Thor is played by Chris Hemsworth who is googled to be 6'2" and 215 lbs. They both look like they are larger than life, but what about when they are compared to someone my size?
When it comes to getting into shape I have come up to the fact that I can only get so small. I can stand to lose more fat, but at some point there is just bone. So my frame is what is making me so large. Being that I am 6'5" and 270 lbs, these guys are not that big.
After chatting with my lovely bride Stacie D, she helped me to see and understand a bit more. When you see these actors when they are not training for the movies that will get smaller and fade into the crowd. They will lose the swell and hide in a hooded sweatshirt. On the other side of that you have a celebrity like Dwayne Johnson who is googled to be 6'5" and 260 lbs. That is my size, but huge and ripped out.
Even if Dwayne Johnson chose to stop banging weights at the Iron Paradise he would still only get so small. He won't disappear into the crowd. People will always be able to see him.
So when it comes to my journey and the idea of what it would take to look like a super hero ( just an example) I wouldn't have to get smaller and ripped, I would have to get much bigger and ripped. So to conclude my theory...smaller guys can always get bigger and appear to be bigger people, but big guys can only get so small.
When you are thinking about hitting the gym or getting fit, make sure when you choose someone to compare to or look up to that they have a similar size to you. Bone structure alone means that the muscle will sit differently and appear differently. So If you are a large guy like me, don't try to be a small guy like Captain America...imagine something more like Thanos.
Be well
