In a conversation with my lovely bride Stacie D (@freedomtowrite), we uncovered a pretty important truth. Sometimes we just need to eat some humble pie and admitbwhen we don't know everything.
That is what it has been looking like for me lately. I have been making custom knives for a few years, and have successfully sold or bartered everyone but one. I am used to used 1095 high carbon steel with a wood burning forge....but that is not the case anymore.
I have started using a nicer 5160 spring steel and my new gas forge. The issue is the temperature and the fact I have been overheating the steel. I am sure I have mentioned that there is alot of practice in knife making.
So yesterday I had to suck it up and admit that I was not on top of whatever was happening and I had to learn more. So I read and watched videos all morning to get it more sorted out. Followed by hours in the shop playing with steel color and temperatures.
This is just one example of a time when things we thought we had a handle on just go sideways. It isn't because of any other reason besides I just didn't know enough.
So join me friends in the idea that we are never too old to admit we don't know everything, and can always learn new things!
Be well
