The month of May 2023 was coming to an end, 30 days in which many things happened. Firstly, it was the first anniversary of my mother's death. Also, a week before, my birthday was on the agenda. Also, almost at the end of that month, my almost one year old cat, a male, mixed breed, named William; frankly a little devil, came home with a series of horrendous wounds on his left paw. To this day, September of the same year, I have no idea how or who caused them.

What's more, here, within this #HIVEPETS community, in June, if I remember correctly, I posted about how that incident had been and uploaded pictures with his collar on to prevent him from licking and hurting himself further. At that time, I explained that the vet service was impossible for me to afford given my meagre income at the time. So I had decided to educate myself properly, consulting vets online and asking acquaintances about the best way to treat open wounds and soaking up knowledge so that I could best apply it to my kitty.

I won't say that it was an easy task to make Will learn the lesson, and therefore "collaborate" with me in order to speed up his recovery. In fact, if it had been that way, this post wouldn't make any sense at all, haha. Now, how were these three months since what happened to my cat? I'll tell you that nothing simple. He had two deep wounds. The first one was on the lower part of his left hind leg. Yes, right where they usually rest it for walking, near the pad of his toes. And the other, near the heel of the same place... That is, at the joint.

As you can probably guess, the daily dressings I had to perform on him were more than a challenge. The simple fact of immobilising him in order to properly treat the wounds, cleaning, disinfecting, smearing bactericidal ointment and applying sterile gauze and adhesive, required at least two people. And for those of you who don't know my pet's character, let me tell you that he is a panther in the truest sense of wild feline behaviour. I have known it all my life. My girlfriend gave him to me as an anniversary present for my anniversary with her in 2022, and from puppyhood he was simply uncontrollable.

Nothing like the friendly, mischievous and even funny kittens we can all enjoy on Instagram reels or Tik Tok videos. Believe me, I wish that was the case, but no.... I didn't get that version of a cat, but the reincarnated demon, hehe. However, with time, patience and above all, habit, I've grown quite fond of him. He is totally unique, that cat. And I know that all pet owners usually argue the same thing, but I am not exaggerating when I say that my cat only needs to talk to be a human being. Even if he were one, he would be more like Vegeta than anything else...

In this sense, both wounds were giving way and with the application of oral antibiotics, applied with a syringe every 12 hours (in the case of William, 1.5 ml) given his weight (approximately 7 kilograms), the whole process accelerated a lot. And then why did it take three months to heal completely? Well, to answer that question truthfully, I have to tell you that it was because of him? He always found one way or another to hurt himself in the wound (which at first was not bandaged, on the vet's recommendation) but then I was forced to bandage it, as it would be impossible for it to heal otherwise....

When his healing process was about to finish, he would rub himself with the material of the neck brace.... Or else he would do it with some wall in the house. I even saw him rub himself on the underside of the dining room chairs. Yes, as if it were an itch. All this only delayed his delicate healing. It infuriated and frankly frustrated me.... A cat with an extremely wild personality. In the end, the bandage option was the most appropriate and effective. By the third month of back and forth with him, I ran out of patience and bandaged him as if he had fractured. Holy cow, it worked. Now it is healthy, strong and rebellious...

Me enfurecía y francamente me frustraba...
