Hablar no es lo mismo que hablar en público / Speaking is not the same as public speaking (Esp- Eng)
Speaking is not the same as public speaking
Speaking and public speaking are not the same thing, even though they are common, interdependent acts.
Speaking is an intransitive act. It is the action of using speech by an individual, hence its individuality, the person chooses and selects definitions and images that he keeps in his brain and shares them orally in the intimacy of his environment. So much in common with public speaking.
Public speaking is an intentional communicative action, the person speaking in public has an interest, a need, a desire. He not only chooses what is in his brain, he analyzes what may exist in the brain of the listener and according to this he acts, facing an emotional charge that is activated automatically when he assumes that he must take the floor, because he has the obligation to communicate.
When I speak I flow naturally, when I speak in public, anxiety is present. Speaking is an individual act. Public speaking is a group act. In the first I speak to empty myself, in the second I fill myself to communicate. That is why they are not the same.
The teacher Álvaro Benavides La Grecca in his book Persuasive Communication states that:
Human beings are born with the ability to speak with others in intimate settings that are generally familiar to us; not to speak in public in front of large audiences in very large and often unfamiliar spaces.
I know that you differ from my proposal because of the practical fact that many of us speak in the same way, whether in public or in private. Many of us do not fill up in public, but empty ourselves with our fears and fears, prejudices and hurts, but that does not mean that this is the norm. What this allows is to highlight the educational need to train ourselves, to learn and master the necessary tools to communicate better and better.
Today we must speak in public and make it an enriching experience for those who speak and for those who listen to us.
