A few weeks ago I decided to start running after a few years of being sedentary, my daily physical activity was just the efforts I had to make in my paid job.
Before falling into this trap, my favorite physical activities were Parkour, a little martial arts and going to the beach through an area of Atlantic Forest, or what's left of it in Brazil. Going back to exercising can be something very pleasurable, I proposed this challenge to myself and finally put it into practice.
What I'm going to talk about next is a very personal account, but I believe it can serve you well, it's a kind of analysis of the thoughts and signals that the body manifests during the race and after it's finished. I intersperse running with walking and the least I'm willing to do is four kilometers. In the first half my body simply begs me not to continue, my legs are heavy, my calf burns and my knees are already asking for immediate rest; in the third kilometer, all that malaise simply disappeared, just the sound of footsteps, the wind in my face and breathing are in my mind, in the last 500 meters my body goes back to asking for rest and finally I decide to listen to it. Satisfied I can put an end to race and feel proud of having completed this course.
What I want to make clear with this testimony is that no matter what you set out to do, especially because it seems like a challenge, your mind and body will resist, it's a mild kind of self-sabotage. You see, if you know that the least you can run is four kilometers, why the hell would you allow yourself to do less than that?!?! Your main goal is overcoming, right? It is to achieve satisfaction with your health and therefore a more attractive body. You will be conquering your best version every day.
Ps: 4 kilometers here in my country for you corresponds to 2 miles and a half.
