This is just the first article in the series but because it's a general overview it's of interest to the general reader. If you're interested in machine learning or learning machine learning then it will give you a good idea of the kinds of things that you might need to learn before you start. If you're not a computer science graduate and if you're interested in it in general then it can give you a little bit more in depth understanding than the hype articles in tech magazines.

Is this really AI?

I love the historical observation on people not accepting the next advance in artificial intelligence as actual intelligence. I think it says a lot about our hubris and the need to be special among animals and now among machines. My suspicion is that because machine learning is far more a blackbox and it's methodologies are difficult to inspect because of their abstract and statistical nature that it's harder to refute them. That said of course we can always just say "it's some statistical tricks" and continue not accepting machine intelligence as intelligence.

General

Otherwise this article is just a look at some of the scary and also enticing things about artificial intelligence and machine learning, with the usual predictions of the end of work the explosion of artificial general intelligence and what uncertainty this leads to in how we think of the future.

It seems like a really cool series and I'll probably skim over it first to see what it's like when I get the time.
