The best seller

This week's theme for Deranged Photography Contest by @derangedvisions, is Hit me with your best shot. A more or less free subject but actually a quite difficult one. The concept is not only to present your favourite shot but also justify, why it is your favourite. And as usual when I have a lot of choices, I find it hard to decide!

First I thought of my first breakthrough as a travel photographer but I have told you all about it. Then a beautiful shot of my village that I took when I gave up the city and completely changed my life. A very important milestone in my personal history but I have told you all about it too. Maybe my most well paid assignment as a studio photographer or perhaps the picture that got me hooked again when I had quit photography for years. No and no. This theme is a proper brainteaser :)

Since I couldn't make up my mind I decided to let someone else make the decision for me!

About nine years ago, when I was ready to quit my photographic carrier and the urban lifestyle, I uploaded a few hundred pictures at an image bank, istock in specific, to see if it was possible to have a passive income from my archives to support me at my new life. The whole project wasn't as lucrative as I was hoping and when istock was sold to getty images, I completely lost my interest about it. Those first pictures that I uploaded are still available through getty and some other image banks and once in a while I check my account and claim my meagre earnings. And every time I look at the statistics there is one picture, always the same that appears at every month's sales. For nine years, every month! I have no idea what makes it successful and all my other pictures a flop but if I knew, I could have a brilliant carrier at the image bank arena :)

So the users of istock made the choice I couldn't make and it is the first picture of this post that they have chosen. I named it: Hotel swimming pool in Greece at dusk and it is by far my best seller! A good enough reason to call it, my best shot :)

I am adding a few more pictures from my hotel portfolio, to spice up the post a little bit and give you a better idea of what I uploaded back then.
