Today it was a rainy day, so we didn't spend much time outdoors but we had a nice mini trip in Sunday at a small village near by. Of course we spent some time walking around and taking pictures, so let me tell you about it under the hospitable roof of the #wednesdaywalk challenge, created by 
Mirtos lie on the south coast of Crete and for a place that attracts a big load of tourists every summer, it is as cute as it can be. There are not big hotels and resorts here, just rooms and small apartments for rent, as well as taverns, coffee shops and grocery shops to cover all the basic needs. But what makes it different from other similar places is the details that give a very relaxed and low key vibe!
Unfortunately it doesn't escape the fate of all touristic places in Greece during winter. Apart from Athens, they all surrender to negligence and abandonment till spring comes and the scenery sets once again, to welcome the visitors. For now closed shops, municipal works on the streets and signs inviting you to the non existing!
I don't want to be unfair though. Mirtos has a lot of people that live there all year round, in contradiction to many other villages that are totally deserted when the season is over. Here you can always find a grocery and a butcher except of course on Sundays and as I told you before this is our case :)
As usual 
I always take pictures of neglected houses. Apart from the fact that I am a sucker for the charm of dereliction, I can never understand how people neglect such valuable assets. A small house like the one below can provide a sufficient income to support a small family and yet no one bothers to renovate or sell it. A mystery of ownership that I never managed to decipher!
