My longest bike ride ever... my training diary entry from September 26 2026
(Unfortunately, I didn't take a single photo during yesterday's entire ride, so I searched through my gallery and settled on this picture. It shows the latest batch of chilies my wife bought. If you eat too many of these things, your ass hurts the next day. I thought that was quite fitting, since mine is hurting a bit today from the long bike ride, too. ;))
Hi Actifitters,
yesterday, after more than a year, my mountain bike was brought out of the basement and dusted off. Together with a friend, I rode nearly 55 kilometers to visit friends. We spent a few pleasant hours there enjoying homemade burgers and apple crumble cake before heading back home the same way.
When I was out riding my bike over a year ago, I took almost the same route. This makes it very easy to compare my performance. Here are the figures for yesterday's ride, with the figures from the ride over a year ago in parentheses.
Duration - 4:51:37 (5:42:03)
Distance - 109.28 km (108.79 km)
Average speed - 22.5 km/h (19.1 km/h)
Maximum speed - 35.9 km/h (29.8 km/h)
Average heart rate - 152 bpm (142 bpm)
Maximum heart rate - 180 bpm (168 bpm)
Calories - 4103 (3449)
As you can see, I was moving significantly faster this time. However, I felt like my heart rate was too high. Oh well, all in all, it was a very active day, and I can be very satisfied with that.
Moreover, yesterday's ride was the longest I have ever done on a bike.
Mission 80 (Day 90 = 85.1 kg / Goal = 80.0 kg / Initial weight = 90.0 kg / Total loss = 4.9 kg)
Despite all the calories I burned yesterday, I managed to eat enough not to lose a single gram—hats off to me. ;)
Due to yesterday's long tour, all my metrics are in the red zone. The only sensible decision—aside from my mandatory steps—is to take a rest day today.
