Splinterlands - Camouflage as an important Factor [ENG/DE]
Hello Splinterlandians! In my opinion, the Camouflage ability should not be underestimated and is very suitable for certain cards. However, I always felt that I couldn't base a strategy largely on the Camouflage ability. That has changed, though, because I played a battle in which I was able to rely on this ability and it was very important for the outcome of the battle.
As part of this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge, I would like to briefly introduce you to this battle from Modern Ranked mode and my strategy, as I consider it to be quite unique. What's more, the battle took place against @macaroth90, a colleague from the โLandstreicherโ guild. Enjoy reading! ๐
Rulesets, Manacap and Splinters:
Two rulesets were active in this battle. The first is Equal Opportunity, which, as the name suggests, grants all units the Opportunity ability. This ruleset is essential for the strategy I use. The second is Up To Eleven, which gives all units the Amplify ability. That doesn't help me much, as I will be playing a unit with the Amplify ability myself.
The mana cap is 32 mana, which is in the middle range. That's fine for my strategy, but a little more mana wouldn't be bad, as some of the cards are relatively expensive to play.
We don't have to worry about the available splinters, as only the Earth Splinter is available. That's good for me, as I need it for my strategy. And because only one Splinter is available, you might even be able to predict what your opponent will play. However, the same applies to me.
Lineup and Strategy:
| Position | Card | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Archon | Since I only have Kaylia Silverleaf as an Archon for the Earth Splinter, I decided to go with her. But that's not a bad thing at all, since she buffs the Elfs and plays an important role in this strategy. | |
| #1 | I placed Quilliun Legionary in the first position. Thanks to its good stats and the abilities Thorns and Void, this unit should act as the frontline tank. In addition, the card can also attack from there thanks to the ability Close Range. | |
| #2 | Behind this comes what is probably the most important card in this strategy: Lord Thanalor. The card's stats, especially its high Magic Attack, are incredibly important. It is also an Elf, which gives it the Execute ability, further increasing its offensive potential immensely. As mentioned earlier, the Amplify ability is irrelevant with this ruleset. | |
| #3 | In the third position, I play Ujurak Elder. This is a solid supporter card that you can't really go wrong with. Especially considering that all units have the Opportunity ability, the Camouflage ability is valuable because it means that Ujurak Elder can only be attacked as the last card. | |
| #4 | The last position is taken by Blackmoor Wild Elf. This card is also an Elf with Magic Attack and will receive the Execute ability. It also has the Camouflage ability, the advantages of which I have just explained in this ruleset. |
Some of you may now be wondering to what extent this strategy relies on the Camouflage ability, as it is not entirely obvious. Due to the active ruleset Equal Opportunity, all units attack the enemy units with the lowest hit points. In my case, these would initially be Ujurak Elder and Blackmoor Wild Elf. However, since both have the Camouflage ability, they cannot be attacked at the beginning and the attacks are directed at my other two units. The offensive part of my strategy is definitely formed by Lord Thanalor and Blackmoor Wild Elf, especially in combination with Kaylia Silverleaf. In addition, Quilliun Legionary may be able to damage one or two opponents with the help of the Thorns ability.
Battle:
And this is what my lineup ultimately looks like in the battle.
My opponent also has Ujurak Elder and Blackmoor Wild Elf in his lineup, probably for the same reasons as me. However, he doesn't have Kaylia Silverleaf as an Archon, so he's not as well positioned offensively as I am.
After the first round, one of my Execute abilities has already triggered and I was able to eliminate the first enemy unit with Thunderhoof Nomad. Almost all of my units still have full health points. This is mainly because Quilliun Legionary has the Void ability and my Kaylia Silverleaf weakens the enemy's Magic Attackers.
At the start of the third round, more enemy units have fallen: Dread Tafarian and Halfling Refugee. Meanwhile, my units have continued to suffer hardly any damage. Furthermore, only the enemy Quilliun Legionary is still capable of inflicting significant damage.
I've fast-forwarded a bit here, skipping a few rounds, and we're already in round 6, because it took a while to eliminate the enemy's Quilliun Legionary. I think you can already see how the battle will end here, as my opponent has hardly any units left and, above all, can't do any damage.
In the end, I was able to win the battle without losing a single unit. So it would have been a perfect outcome if the battle had taken place in Survival mode.
GG to my opponent and guildmate @macaroth90, it was an honor!
The idea of playing the two units with the Camouflage ability worked well, even though it has to be said that other cards won the battle here. Lord Thanalor in particular is worth mentioning here, as he is simply an incredibly strong card. Nevertheless, it's good to know that units with the Camouflage ability can be very useful in the Equal Opportunity ruleset.
Last Words:
Splinterlands never ceases to surprise me, because you never stop learning and there are always new things to discover. As I mentioned at the beginning, I never saw the Camouflage ability as an absolute pillar of a strategy, but that is exactly the case with the Equal Opportunity ruleset. And so, every available ability probably has its use case in a specific ruleset. It's just great how diverse the gameplay of Splinterlands is.
But I've written enough now, it's your turn. What do you think of this strategy? Were you already familiar with it? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. As always, the @commentrewarder service is activated. Thank you for reading this far, and I wish you all the best! ๐
Hallo Splinterlandians!
Viel Spaร beim Lesen! ๐
Rulesets, Manacap und Splinters:
In diesem Battle waren zwei Rulesets aktiv.
| Position | Karte | Erklรคrung |
|---|---|---|
