pelican in the water

In Vienna i was lucky to take some pictures of a pelican at the Floridsdorfer Waterpark. Since this is not a Zoo but a park where birds and animals can live on their free will it is not so easy to find a Pelican there. When i ivisited this place there where several pelicans enjoying the nice weather and sun in the cold water of the park pond. Pelicans eat a lot of fish and therefore there has to be some fish in the pond too otherwise they wouldn't be lungering around there. This was the only time i saw a pelican in Austria but when i visited the Florida in the USA for several times in the past i always saw several of them at the peer looking for fish that the fishermen left behind.

When i took the pictures of this pelican it was cleaning itself from insects in the water of the pond. Perfect for taking some action shots with the bird. I think it is very beautiful to find so much different animals in a City like Vienna. They have a very good park concept and by protecting several areas like the Lobau or with big parks like the Donaupark, the Prater, Augarten, Wienerberg, Lainzer Tiergarten there is a lot of place for animals and the nature still left.

I am already planing to visit the Lainzer Tiergarten some time soon, every time i drive to vienna i think i should visit it but till now i never made it there.
