Hello, dear@hivepets community Today I want to share a very special story with you about our kitten, who came home with one name but ended up keeping another. Let me introduce you to Margarito—even though at first we were all convinced he was Margarita.
When this little ball of fur arrived at our home, my daughter Gabriela was convinced it was a female because that’s what she’d been told. Without a second thought, she named her “Margarita” and started pampering her as such: pink collars, little outfits made from socks, delicate accessories, and special toys she made with her own hands—all very feminine. But as the days went by, something didn’t add up. Gaby, who’s very curious, started reading about cat behavior and discovered that females tend to be more alert and hunter-like, while males tend to be more LAZY. And our “Margarita” slept as if there were no tomorrow.
That's when the suspicion began. “Mom, I think Margarita isn't really Margarita—she's actually Margarito,” Gaby said. But of course, physically, there were no signs of it yet. Over time, nature took its course, his testicles appeared, and the theory was confirmed.
The problem was that we were all already used to the original name. Gaby tried changing it to other names like “Café con leche” or “ponche crema,” but none of them stuck. So for a while we called him Margarita, Margarito, Margarita—a total mess. Finally, we got used to it, and today we all call him Margarito. I even swapped out his pink bowls for blue ones, though we still haven’t managed to replace the pastel-colored collar he’s worn since he was a kitten.
But beyond the name, what I want to tell you is what he’s like. Margarito is an extremely affectionate kitten, but he’s selective. He runs away from Gaby and Santi because they want to play and chase him around, and he’s more of a calm soul. He likes peace, long naps, and quiet corners. When I’m sitting down, he climbs on top of me and asks for cuddles. If I lie down on the couch, he settles in next to me. If I go to the kitchen, he lies down near my feet. He does the same with my husband. He acts differently around us.
As for the kids, well, he prefers to keep his distance. It’s not that he doesn’t like them; he just doesn’t like all the commotion.
He also lives with Roco, our other pet, and even though at first we were worried about how they’d get along, they actually get along really well now. They don’t play much because Margarito is too lazy, but they sleep together and keep each other company. And even though we originally brought him home to scare away some rodents, we’ve never seen him catch anything. My husband says his scent alone scared them off, and I’d rather believe him, hahahahaha.
Today I can say we’re happy with him. He’s clean, calm, a heavy sleeper, and a real cuddler—even though he sheds hair all over the house. We were never really cat people, but Margarito won us over.
Well, friends, I hope you liked the photos. Thanks for always supporting me. Best wishes and blessings.
