Visits to 2.0

GridArt_20220602_082012391.png

Dear community of mommies and daddies, I greet you from my love. I hope that this month will be full of blessings and learning.

In this opportunity, I come to show you a topic that particularly I have had to reinvent myself in this technological era:

The visits to the 2.0

With my family living all over the world, we have had no choice but to reinvent ourselves. On the 24th and 31st or birthdays, we have been doing it the 2.0 way, that is, through video calls we meet and share.

However, the fact that it is virtual does not mean that we downplay its importance; on the contrary, we should pay the same attention as if it were in person.

Particularly I am a very organised person, I am even at the point of OCD 😅🤣😂 but this has helped me and here I share my experience with you:

Planning:

It will sound the most obvious, but we can't just be calling because the other person may be busy or we may be busy. For example, if I know I'm having dinner at 6:00 p.m. I can't schedule that time to call.

I have two options: either I make dinner later or I make it earlier, but at the time of the call, you have to dedicate the time for that person or those people who will intervene, unless you want to show what you cook.

Therefore, planning is important when everyone involved has a time, this will generate more interaction and reciprocity in communication.

I write to them during the week asking if they can make such and such a date and time and I try to confirm a day or hours before so that I don't have that inconvenience, unless something unforeseen comes up.

Plan what to talk about

It is true that technology has brought us closer together; due to pandemics or any other external situation, we use our phones all day long and even more so if it is a daily connection.

However, it is kind of boring to say:

—Hello!—

—How are you?

—Fine. How are you?

—I'm fine...

—And then? What else?

—Nothing here. And you?

Then it becomes an empty conversation and ends faster than planned. My recommendation is to have a topic in mind: about a pet, your plants, some exercise you are doing, i.e. positive things (while you can).

We know that there are shortcomings, deficiencies and negative elements, we can't avoid them either, but my recommendation is that you try to balance them.

For example: increase in petrol. It is a worrying issue and there is no way to avoid it, but we can complement it with: thank goodness we made that trip we wanted to make in our car and we were able to enjoy it. And so we can start talking about trips, places or remembering a comfortable moment. That way we will be balancing the conversation and who knows, even a new travel plan will come up. In short, don't be basic, redundant on a topic or talk only about the negative.

When they are children or adolescents

Here the situation changes a bit and we have to be more creative Why? Because children are more "monosyllabic": yes, no, good, ok.

So we must prepare for them to enjoy that moment. In my fespeud experience of planning the meeting, I tell them that we are going to play games: stop, word count, I never, and games that they know and that they teach me at the moment. We laugh a lot and they always want to keep talking to me.

Also, when we talk, if I know they had a maths exam, I ask them how it went, if they did the exercise they knew, what the difficulty was, if I ask the teacher, that is, I try to make sure it's not just monosyllabic answers but answers with content.

Finally, prayer is always present with my nephews and nieces (children/adolescents) and we repeat it, it keeps us united spiritually. I complement it by expressing to them how much I love them, that I am very proud of them and that.
