So many chores to do around the farm. The day started with a little session of card board break down. It is a bit amazing how quickly it accumulates. Every so often I spend time breaking down all the boxes that I have tossed out under the car port and this time I got a nice tall stack. It all got piled next to the burn pile for later in the day.
The request was to move the treadmill to the studio from the patio. The treadmill had been siting on the patio for a couple years and had collected a healthy amount of grime/dust/dirt/etc and needed a good cleaning. I drug it out to the yard and then loaded it into my truck. It worked well to tip it on its back to load it.
I had brushed it off before loading it and once it was in the truck I pulled down to the air compressor and then blew it off as well as I could. I strapped it down to the bed for the short drive up the hill to the studio.
I was able to back right up to the studio slider and then managed the treadmill through the door. I was a bit surprised it made it through as easily as it did but it landed in the middle of the studio and seemed to be home. It looked like it belonged.
With the treadmill out of the truck I got to load it up with the scaffolding and a bunch of left over wood and construction materials to take down to the wood storage.
I got food out for the boys then went down to the creek to look at the trees and found a bunch of broken branches from last year. The November storm that happened while we were on a trip had been heavy and fell on still leafed out trees. They snapped pretty easily it seems. With the burn pile building up I took the opportunity to clear a bunch of the debris out.
Next to the creek the stinging nettle is poking little heads up en-mass. They are all over and are about a week from harvest time. I will be trying to get enough cut at once to fill the freeze dryer for a run. I expect it to be a pretty short cycle but am anxious to try.
It can be hard to see but there is a marked difference after I pulled all the debris out. This summer I will be working on clearing it out even more so we have a nice area to sit by the creek.
I tossed all the wood on the trailer to move it up the hill to the garden.
In the afternoon I was in the yard with the boys and after tightening up the slack line I managed to walk the whole length. It really surprised me since it was the first time I have been on it in months, and I am way out of shape. I tried to go back but only made it halfway before my shoulders and arms were on fire. It takes a boat load of upper body movement to stay on the line.
was very happy to see the treadmill in the studio. It took us a bit to figure out the best position for it to be the least movement on the structure. We found that having it running over more of the floor joists makes the studio move less.
The fire burned quick and we have a very healthy pile of ash this morning. There was still some unburned wood that I stirred up and got burning a little bit ago.
Today our friends are stopping by, I have to pack for climbing tomorrow, there is more debris around the farm to pile on the coals for the day, and I have the constant task of organizing/cleaning.
