The #PEPT Game community recognizes today's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
New Brunswick, Canada did not have any federally run residential schools, but Indigenous children from the province were sent to institutions elsewhere. As in other provinces.
My oldest sister, who was adopted when she was 10 years old, 2 years before I was born, had a grandmother that was Mi'kmaw First Nation. Being of Acadian descendant, my ancestors developed a strong bond with First Nation people. It was a matter of survival as it remains today while we all work together for a more loving and caring community.
I was raised by parents that were devout Roman Catholics. By the age of 9 when I realized that I could choose to believe whatever I wanted I took great interest in learning more about God, Jesus, Virgin Marry and Mother Nature. By the age of 15, I made it a mission for me to learn the English language better than the average English only speaking person in my life. So I accepted that I had to focus on improving my English at the expense of losing some of my Acadian French. I knew I wanted to raise a family so my descendants could have a better chance in life than what I had experienced. Fast forward and today, I can say I have been happily married to a Scottish gal for over 44 years already. We have 3 children and 3 grand children and we are filled with joy that we are well positioned to deal with whatever life brings upon us.

Today, I will allocate more of my time to think about love, truth and reconciliation. I actually think about this everyday but today it is a more powerful feeling because I am a believer that everything is connected and sometimes these stronger connections have a way of achieving greater enlightenment in our world.
