In 1960, Coltrane recorded several albums, including My Favorite Things, for Atlantic Records. This is one of them, and although it is titled "Coltrane Plays de Blues", the title does not mean that the songs are conventional blues, but that they have a feeling with a blues accent, whether Coltrane plays the tenor saxophone or the soprano. Elvin Jones stands out in the fastest themes demonstrating his mastery with the battery. The album could be classified within the style of hard bop or post-bop.
Tyner begins with his piano playing a blues at medium tempo. Coltrane enters with his solo following the bluesy swinging of the tune. He makes his second chorus extending his speech, but as the solo advances, his blues transformes. Now Tyner enters with his parsimony, continuing his speech, without hurry, but without pause. Again, Coltrane intervenes, reinforcing the melancholy of the melody in an extensive way, and suddenly the theme ends.
