Guitarra Gretsch modelo 6120

Hello friends of Hive I hope you are very well. Today I want to show my latest work. It is a guitar, a replica of the Gretsch 6120 guitar, one of the guitars that I like the most for its sound and its shape. It has a touch so classic and at the same time so modern that it makes it very special for me. Many well-known artists have used them, such as the great Roy Orbison. I made this guitar with materials such as soda cans, foam and wood. I was doing it for days while I took care of other things. I hope you like how it turned out.

First, we draw on a cardboard the size of what the guitar will have, this guitar measures 17cm. Once we have drawn it, we separate what is the body of the guitar from the neck. From the body of the guitar we draw two pieces and cut them out of a soda can, and in the back we put a hard cardboard to give consistency to the body.

The second step is to take the wood and build the mast. I saw many videos of how to make a mast in a traditional way and I liked every process that I saw. We cut with a knife and we mold the entire neck and once we have done the whole body we sand it and make the openings where the frets of the guitar will be placed

Now we go to the main step which is to join the parts of the body of the guitar that we cut at the beginning between them and then join them to the neck. For them, with the pattern of the guitar, we cut a piece of thick foam. and in the middle of it we make a small hole where the lower part of the mast enters. This will help the guitar firm up like a real guitar. We first glue the foami to one of the sides of the guitar, then we glue the neck and once it is well fixed we place the back of the guitar and this is how it should look.

The next step is to fill in the edges so that it is uniform. We do it so. We take school glue and mix it with sawdust from wood. We make a small dough and we put it around the edges with a small spatula. Then we wait for it to harden and with sandpaper we begin to sand until it is flat and uniform. Then we cut a strip of soda can that covers the entire edge and is the thickness of the guitar, about 7mm. We put glue on the edge and gradually glue the tin strip. This is how it looks when we do it.

Then we mold a piece that will be the place where the pegs for the guitar string will be placed. We glue it and then when we have everything ready we paint the guitar. I painted it black because it is the color I use the most now. However I was thinking of leaving it like this without painting but then I thought about giving it more realism. The paint I used is gloss black spray.

The first accessories after painting it was to put the microphones on it. that leaves them silver colored aluminum from the can. I also made the bridge on which the strings will be attached and fixed it to the can with a small screw. And lastly I did the frets which was by far the hardest thing to do. I did it with fine copper wire and fixed it inside the openings that I made earlier with a knife, I spent a whole morning placing the 23 frets. Then I made the pegs.

For the cords use a very fine copper wire, it is so fine that it looks like sewing thread. I place it little by little and very carefully in the same way as guitar strings. from the bridge to the pegs. It was also a difficult job because many strings broke in the process. From now on I only made small accessories that occurred to me and that I was seeing that I was wearing the original model.

And last but not least is to make the stand for the guitar. I made it very simple but practical. I would have liked to do it better and with better finishes but the wood had run out :(

In the final finishes, I added a pickguard that I made out of tin. I also put 6 screws that are the sound and tuning controls and finally I put the vibrato so characteristic of this guitar model.
