I went right to my mom with this word in the freewrite prompt today. She used to recite the famous quote of it.
"Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive."
This come from a play “Marmion” by Sir Walter Scott which was written in the early 1800’s.
So why did my mom say this? I do not recall, but I can hear her.
My mom was a big believer in to how complicated life becomes when people start lying. You have to remember your lies and add to them, and all kinds of disaster will come next.
I think of this now a lot in terms of food. So many things we think are healthy are not. The producer lies to us with words like “natural.” When I was on my path to healthy living, one of the first things I found out was that “natural” does not have a legal definition in food. When you see the word natural, they are using it because they cannot use organic. But we fall for it since it sounds good.
I pretty much do not follow “news” or politics, thinking all of that is a bunch of lying liars telling more lies. I don’t have the energy, knowledge or patience to pay attention to it or figure out what might be true, so I just tune it all out.
