In one of the craziest offseasons in memory, Antonio Brown has now officially left the building. It was just yesterday that head coach Jon Gruden told the media that Brown will be playing in the season opener on Monday night (against the Broncos). Now 24 hours later, the story AGAIN has changed completely.
What happened within this 24 hour period is quite telling. It turns out that the head coach of the Raiders (Gruden) reached out to Brown via a phone call. For some reason Brown recorded the entire conversation - even though in California you need the other party's permission to record the discussion.
After the phone call (and recording) Brown decided to post the conversation on YouTube for the world to hear.
What's interesting is that there is nothing unusual about the recorded exchange. Literally. Jon Gruden (the head coach) gave Brown the benefit of the doubt (about everything) all while supporting his desire to remain a Raider.
But now something has changed and Brown is no longer a Raider.
To detail his rollercoaster ride as part of the Raider organization, here are a few things that happened within the past month.
- He burned his feet while in cryotherapy treatment.
- Threatened to not play this year because he refused to play with the 2019 updated helmet.
- Skipped meetings as a Raider and was fined $50,000.
- Posted that $50,000 fine on social media.
- Got into a heated argument in front of the entire team with the Raider's general manager.
- His guaranteed money from the Raiders organization was voided due to all this foolishness.
- Oh ya...Brown also flew in on a hot air balloon on the first day of training camp (not kidding).
However, what is happening now is in my opinion just as interesting as ALL of the information that I listed above.
As I said, because of all the shenanigans the Raiders finally decided to get rid of Brown, but the renegade receiver quickly got picked-up by another team.
What team you ask?
The "Super Bowl Champion" - NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS.
