Going to the traditional market is always so fun. I think i rarely went to traditional market growing ups. The reason is not because our family bought our groceries in big supermarket. Many people would’ve guessed something like that if i told them that i rarely go to traditional market growing up, probably almost like never. The reason is because we as the kids just doesnt have any business in there. For my grandmother and my mom, taking the kids to shop means it adding up the work they should do because it means they need to watch the kids too while they’re already busy thinking about what to buy. Its also a big hassle because they should hold our hands always so we will not getting lost while they can use the hand to hold the groceries’ bag. Anyway, mostly my traditional market experience i got when i was in university. That was also because i often stay in my friend’s house and we will all cook together or something so we often went to traditional market near her house for shopping.

In this post, i had the chance to visit a traditional market in another city, which is in Pamulang. I visited my friend’s house in there and we were looking for a light bites in the morning and that is why we were looking for snacks in the traditional market near my friend’s house. My main focus in this post gonna be the snacks we bought while we exploring the traditional market. We even sit and finished the whole food there which i will also share later. The name of the market is Pasar Kaget. Kaget means Surprised in english. The reason why they named it like that was because it used not to be a market. It was just a normal road. Then, they suddenly became a traditional market, hence the reason why the name is like that. It makes people surprised that suddenly there’re a traditional market in there.

For snacking, of course there’re two type of snacks we should have. The first are the drink and the second are the food. For the drink, i found this one very intriguing. Its called Iced Cendol. We also have cendol too in my city but i have never found it in this type of look. Eventhough i saw then few times on social media, i was always wondering “what was that food?” But never got the answer. So, when i saw them while strolling the market, i asked my friend to buy that one immediately. The green paste is the cendol. We also have green cendol in my area but the shape is different. Usually its long and thin cendol.

This is the cendol. They served it in plastic cup like this which i am thankful for because it makes so easy to consume on the go. I cant imagine if its just in plastic, we must wait to go back home to be able to consume them. The taste is sweet, very refreshing, especially the coconut cream and the brown sugar. Its combined with the thick cendol, which surprisingly a good combination too. The cendol that i used to have is more chewy than this so this is absolutely a new taste. The price is 5.000 idr.

After refreshing drink, we also decided to have something that can fill our stomach . We decided to buy sweet martabak right beside tge iced cendol. First of all, its just easier to buy food that located close with each other. The seeet martabak looks small and i found it cute. That is why i asked for them too.

This is what the sweet martabak looks like. Its small and only have 4 pieces which is perfect for us, we got two each. The fillings that we have are chocolate and peanuts, so classic and lovely. The martabak not very thick which make them good. I dont like a thick martabak. It taste so good and the peanut makes the martabak taste less sweet so you will not get tired eating them. The price is also 5.000 idr.
