Yesterday the official statement from the Venezuelan government was made public in relation to SUNACRIP, it was not until this morning that I had access to the document, to read the official statement click here. I am not a lawyer, nor are laws my specialty, but as a Venezuelan citizen and crypto-enthusiast it is a subject that invites me to reflect.

Last march, this entity was declared non-functional due to reorganization because the old board of directors was being investigated for alleged involvement in corruption, people were arrested and the government appointed a new board of directors that, as its first task, has had to dismantle everything and reorder.
The closure of the offices of the Superintendency of Cryptocurrencies and Related Activities (SUNACRIP) generated chaos and confusion in the crypto world within Venezuelan territory. In fact, perhaps the most recurrent question is: are cryptocurrencies legal in Venezuela? But before answering this question, let's take a look at the landscape.

Venezuela is one of the countries that uses cryptocurrencies the most, there are indicators that affirm the great volume of transactions in cryptocurrencies in Venezuela, in fact, the creation of SUNACRIP as a government entity that watches and by the financial activities related to the crypto world is a step that few nations at a global level have taken. Initially, SUNACRIP was very clear on the issue of cryptocurrency mining, and it was completely legal to mine bitcoin if you had the required permissions from this entity.
Now, since it closed, the certainty that was had was blurred, one of the things that the new board of directors dictated was the cessation of operations related to mining, and the orders were to turn off the equipment until further notice. Initially they were only 6 months of detention of the operations while the reorganization was taking place, but now they have extended the period for 6 more months.

This makes me think that from the first announcement regarding the restructuring of SUNACRIP to the next 6 months of extension, Venezuela is obliged to experience a kind of legal vacuum in the Cryptographic context. Losing in this way an incredible opportunity as a country. I imagine there are hundreds of companies that do not dare to venture into the Venezuelan market due to financial uncertainty and until this irregularity is solved we miss very valuable opportunities.
I think cryptocurrencies are fully legal as long as there is no announcement that dictates otherwise, which I doubt will happen, because it would make no sense to restructure SUNACRIP if the prohibition is intended. I think the investigations into the old management of this entity have been extended more than was thought, we must remember that this office not only issued permits related to mining, but also provided permissions for Venezuelan exchanges to operate under a legal framework, this entity was also related to everything that had to do with PETRO. For those who do not know, PETRO is a digital currency issued by the Venezuelan state and they have decided to cancel all operations with this asset.

Something tells me that there is a lot of chaos internally that they are trying to solve, although this is just a speculation on my part without any basis. Now, What are the consequences for all those people who want to operate with cryptocurrencies in Venezuela?
Beyond the uncertainty and the gray area of the legal framework, I think that operations with cryptocurrencies in Venezuela are completely legal until there is no legal instrument or documentation that declares the use of cryptocurrencies illegal. Since the only instrument that exists affirms the legality of the use of cryptocurrencies, and until something that repeals it exists, it remains in full force. So beyond being alarmed by the current extension issued, the question is to wait for everything to be clarified and not extended even more.
Venezuela is a pioneer country in the use of cryptocurrencies, and that is something important that must always be mentioned, not by chance the second edition of the largest cryptographic event in the country will be held at one of the most important universities in Venezuela.
