I don't believe in any god or gods. Neither do I believe afterlife, resurrection, walking on water... I consider all of this as at best case fairy tales. At worst a scam. I have never seen any of this happen. And I don't think that it is possible. My opinion about horoscopes, priests, psychics, fortune tellers and so on is no better.
Even if I would believe in afterlife I would definitely not want it. Eternal hell is self explanatory. No sane person would want to be tortured forever. But I don't find eternal paradise appealing as well. Praising god and singing songs forever seems like a terrible waste of time to me and I would much rather choose complete oblivion. Especially considering that that god ordered a father to sacrifice his son and made a flood that must have killed many animals and innocent people. Also if god existed before everything else that means that he also created all evil in the world. So I think that it is not fair to blindly praise god for all that is good and ignore all that is bad.
With that being said plenty of people believe in things like afterlife. I am surprised that to this day many people believe in religion. But I think that I somehow understand why. Perhaps they are so afraid of death that they cling to a last bit hope. Or perhaps they still hope to meet their lost loved ones... Those are the reasons I could think for someone believing in gods or religion. The problem is that as long as people believe in these things others may see this an opportunity to gain riches or power. All they need to do is say the right things and believers will give them money, food and authority. I think that preying on people's beliefs is a dirty business.
I like fantasy books. Lord of the Rings, The Witcher and Berserk are my favorite works of fiction. But I don't believe them to be real. If I would suddenly start praising Gandalf as a god people would think that I am crazy. But I think that he would be no worse god than any of the gods in current religion. He has that sacrifice himself and resurrection thing. So he might be a popular god.
