brevity
so quick
a moment's inspiration
a tickle in my neck
a brush stroke
over the eternal silence
of our existence
the canvas of our love
scattered across the prominence
of the colors
that cannot imagine
to fill the gaps
between the air we breathe
for a moment
I thought
meaning flowed
and that I found you
behind the textured paint
alas
it was but a fleeting artistic dream
in which I could not imagine
the abstract meaning
the immanent abstraction
I was again lost
behind a wall of ignorance
for your touch was absent
and the world collapsed
into an inner soliloquy
the main character long dead
now mere symbolic tokens
to which no one has the key
but you
alas
it was but a fleeting artistic dream
from which I could not wake
the paint thick
the meaning profound
fog on the edge of a cliff
a wanderer views the world
as I dissipate
into mere chaotic insignificance
alas
it was but a fleeting artistic dream
Postscriptum
I again write to the girl I could not begin to write. This is a play on words in my home language which does not easily translate. The original goes something like: "sy was die meisie wie ek nie kon skryf nie." Directly translated: she was the girl who I could not write. What I mean by this is simply that she was a character who I could not even imagine, I could not write her, write about her, I could not conceptualize her. She evaded my pen.
Yet, @urban.scout somehow entered the game and now my pen is constantly writing, even though I still maintain this position of impossibility; I still cannot write her, but now I can merely write about her.
So this is once again, yet another, poem; a bookmark until the next one.
I hope you enjoyed it, and that its meaning does not slip away from your fingers. Stay safe, and happy reading.
The photographs are my own, albeit taken from this post but with some minimal edits. These images are again used in this post as they were the inspiration behind the poem itself. In fact, I looked at these photographs whilst writing the poem! And on that note, the poem itself is also my own creation.
