Yeeessss, I've made to day two 馃挭 Oh, the discipline, the perseverance, the tenacity... I can feel new powers flowing through my body 馃槣 Hahaha, I'm actually feeling a bit tired because I went to town to get some supplies and it always wears me out. But it does feel good to do a post on the following day without finding excuses for procrastination. Also, I'm really motivated about this little project, I don't know why, but it feels right.
By the way, I'm posting this on the DIYHub community because on my previous post I was invited to do so. Don't know if gardening fits in the community but I'll just post this and see how it's received.
Since I still have a day or two before it's time for sowing I looked around for stuff I could add to the soil. I stumbled across some tires that I had filled up with horse and cow manure a while ago, to see what fungi development they showed, but since there were three of them, I left one to keep the experiment going and removed the other two.
A lot of the manure had already composted so this is really good stuff. Also, there were plenty of vigorous worms.
I filled a bucket with a mixture of the composted manure and forest soil. The earth in the garden (with the exception of the places I have already sown in) is very clayish and not rich in organic matter so I have no fear of overdoing it.
The manure could have done with a bit more breaking up, but I'll be tilling lightly during the following days until it's time to sow, so that will finish destroying it.
I would have liked to add some of my compost but I forgot about it for a few days and it was taken over by potatoes and pumpkin plants. Well, that's an exaggeration, but a few popped up, and you know how I love when edible plants get invasive... for me it's a: welcome to the team! So I won't disturb them, we'll see what happens.
I added the manure and first soil to the patches and begin mixing.
It seems like a good idea to me to do some comparative pictures from the previous day and how it looks currently. This will a also be nice to do every week and every month.
Already looking better but still reddish, like the clayish soil there is here. However, in day 1 you can notice how the dryness makes it look like dust, while in day 2 the moisture retention is higher.
I like what I see as a one day progress, yet it seems to be needing a lot more attention. I'll try adding another bucket of forest soil and see how it goes. Maybe I can find some special place around the forest with lots of rich soi. That would improve the situation quickly.
Oh yeah, I found more seeds while rummaging through some boxes. These include parsley, romanesco, pennyroyal mint, red mustard, beans, and broad beans.
There was even a dose of magic mushrooms there! I smelled it though and it doesn't summon me to consume it. Maybe my time with psychedelics is over, or maybe I just enjoy to eat them fresh instead of dried up. When dry, the smell and flavor become too strong and gives me a bit of nausea.
