I am attempting to write at least 500 words a day. I call it the Felt.Buzz Five Hundred (or #feltbuzz500. I write a five-minute freewrite and then add more words to get to the magic number…
The prompt is only what we could carry

We took only what we could carry.
Luckily I had a large backpack and one of those suitcases with the wheels on it, so I could carry quite a lot.
Maisie stared at me as I wheeled it out to the car.
"What the fuck, Jar?"
"What?"
"I said, 'take what you can carry.'"
"Yeah?"
"Can you even lift that mother fucker into the trunk?"
I hesitated.
"I thought not, asshole. How the fuck are you expecting to get that over the wall?"
Fuck.
"Carry, asshole. I said all you can carry. With your motherfucking hands. Not wheel along like some granny on a day trip."
I tried to think of a witty retort, but all I could come up with at short notice was: "Fuck you, Maisie."
I left the case by the side of the road and hefted the backpack into the trunk. I was probably being over-optimistic in thinking I could climb a wall with that on my back, but I was going to give it a go.
…
Kipper poked me in the ribs as I climbed into the car next to him.
“You’re in trouble, dumbass,” he said, his big grin full of broken teeth. “Maisie told you off.”
“Fuck off, Kipper.”
His smile fell from his face.
“No need to be mean, Jar. I’m only messing with you.”
“Shut up, you two.” Maisie climbed into the drivers seat. “I’m gonna need you boys to at least pretend not to be assholes for the next few hours. Getting over the wall ain’t gonna be easy. You boys are going to need to behave.”
“Yes, Maisie,” Kipper and I said in unison, like we was at school, or something and Maisie was our teacher.
Maisie swivelled on her chair and gave both of us a hard stare, making sure we were being serious. Kipper looked down at his hands, scared and dirty. Me, I kept Maisies gaze for a couple of seconds before I too looked down.
“Let’s go, then,” Maisie said, eventually. “Remember if anyone stops us, we are going to visit Aunt Mabel, out East. We ain’t going to the wall. Got it?”
Me and Kipper nodded. Maisie treated us like idiots. I guess sometimes we deserved it. But even Kipper knew we weren’t supposed to go near the wall. You get shot if you go near the wall without the proper paperwork. Everyone knows that.
Maisie started the engine and pulled off. I took one last look at the house we had grown up in. Lots of memories in that house. Some of them good, I guessed. Most of them were shit, though, and I was glad to leave them there along with the rotting corpse of old Peterson.
Kipper was fidgeting beside me. Wriggling like a fish on a hook.
“What’s with you?” I whispered.
“Need toilet,” Kipper said.
“Darn it, Kipper. Maisie said to take a piss before you get in the car.”
“I don’t need no piss, Jar,” Kipper said.

(Today I wrote… exactly 500 words!)

As usual I wrote the freewrite in five minutes using themostdangerouswritingapp.com and then copied and pasted it into a googledoc, tied it up a bit and then wrote more words!
