"It's terribly good news, old boy," Brian said, raising his pint in salutation as Ray walked up to join him at the bar.

"What?" Ray asked, nodding to Jill as she raised her eyebrows - her landlady's shorthand for the usual, Ray?

"Your book!" Brian said, wiping creamy beer froth from his upper lip. "It's back in print!" Ray stared back at him, blankly for a moment.

"Is it?" he said, putting a note on the bar, exchanging it for the pint of bitter Jill placed in front of him. "I didn't know."

"Perhaps your agent is pulling a fast one," Brian chuckled. "Maybe he intends to pocket the profits." Ray laughed.

"I don't think there will be much in the way of profits. It didn't sell very well last time. Not sure why they'd be reprinting it."

"Didn't you see the article in the paper at the weekend?" Jill asked.
