Waiting to jump

On days like today—a Wednesday—when I have neither a specific topic in mind to develop for my post nor an eye-catching image to grab your attention, I spend my time reading and listening to what I find here and on traditional social media.

I follow news about world events outside the confines of television and the press as we once knew it. I track natural and social occurrences from everywhere—especially the countries where my family and friends live: the Americas (both Ibero-American and Anglo), Spain and the rest of Europe, and then the wider world.

Everywhere I look, I see growing indifference toward politics, accompanied by a marked sense of detachment and discontent regarding government actions—decisions imposed that are far removed from the citizens' actual wishes.

Political or ideological affiliation makes no difference. The ruling party may change, yet actions remain inconsistent with the general welfare; those of us who have witnessed successive governments of varying stripes perceive just how hollow campaign speeches and promises truly are.

I imagine that those who have always lived under a long-standing regime of a single political leaning hold different views—depending on whether they enjoy privileges or not, or whether they are for or against the status quo. Then there is the younger generation—most of whom are not yet of voting age. Generations Z and Alpha (the cohorts to which my grandchildren belong) are so different from my own children that it is hard to find common ground with them; yet, it seems they will be the ones to define society's direction as this decade draws to a close.

I think that is a good thing; they are likely the ones who best understand how today's world works. They navigate the technologies that shape the present and represent the hope for necessary change.

Democracy is languishing amidst manipulation, trickery, and lies. Bureaucracy is so burdensome that tax regimes act as shackles paralyzing the formal economy; meanwhile, as monopolies and global corporations expand, employment becomes precarious, and entrepreneurs are left torn between the informal sector and giving up altogether.

Four or five thousand years of history, during which the world grew and took shape at a much slower pace. It has passed through empires and migrations, dark ages and renaissances. Discoveries and revolutions. The wheel keeps turning and bread keeps coming out of the oven—only now the wheat is genetically modified, like the shortening, though it isn't cooked in a microwave.

Things change, one after another, only to stay the same. One step forward and two back, or vice versa. Prophets of doom announce that the current system is expiring and that what they call "the reset" is coming.

To some, it looks like corporate feudalism carving up spheres of influence and maintaining the circus of failed democracies, while others plan a world government run by privileged technocrats—administrators of human destiny who disregard individual desires. This would likely come at the cost of a universal subsistence wage, for as long as inflation allows it to last.

How many will actually get to enjoy the promised fruits of medical advances, environmental control, and endless well-being, all while facing the threats of economic, biological, psychological, or atomic warfare?

As these unknowns unfold, I continue to bet on the future, trusting that humanity doesn't fall when walking the razor's edge—instead, it takes the leap.

For instance, the price of Hive seems to be trying to recover and reach five US cents. It’s not a huge deal, but after so long sliding down the chute toward oblivion, it offers a glimmer of hope.

It looks like I’ll have to get used to writing in the new Markdown format and leave behind the traditional ecency@ecency version. It’s a case of adapt or perish. That’s the law of life.

Written in Spanish and accompanied by my own photos, the text follows below in English, translated via Google Translate.

I am grateful for the times we live in and for your readership. Feel free to leave a comment.
