Miguel como cada verano recorría el camino de regreso a casa de sus padres, que vivían en una finca en una campiña ubicada en un valle rodeado de montañas. En su recorrido a menos de un kilómetro de la finca, un hermoso árbol de caoba, con sus ramas extendidas le saludaba, ya después de la siguiente curva alcanzaría su destino.
Ahora ese año, en el que su padre ya no estaba presente, había partido al encuentro del eterno, en la ruta recordaba las anécdotas de su padre, una de ellas relacionada con el árbol de caoba, siendo que siempre le repetía: "Hijo, el dia cuando tu regreses y encuentres el árbol de caoba caído en el suelo, te darás cuenta de que yo habré partido"
Recorriendo los últimos kilómetros del viaje, alcanzo el lugar donde estaba el árbol, ya no lo pudo ver, allí estaban dos trabajadores del aserradero cercano terminando de cortarlo, afanosamente colocaban sus restos en un camión. Miguel al reparar en la escena, recordó las palabras de su padre, llorando amargamente, recordaba lo que su padre le había anunciado.
