"Awesome!", a little dude said as he ran by. Promptly stopped by his father, he raised his head, as the grown up asked him "what is that?"
— What is what?
— Awesum...
— Awesome?
— Yes, what is that?
— Uhmmm. It's when something nice happens.
— Something nice? What nice thing happened?
— My friend got permission from his mom to come over.
— Is that called awesome?
— No... It's like... When anything nice happens. It's awesome.
— Oh, you mean cool beans.
— What? No. Awesome!
— But that's cool beans.
— No, it isn't. Beans are food.
— But cool beans is when something nice happens.
— No, that's awesome. Beans are food.
— You know what? Go tell your mom your friend is coming. She might have a piece of cake waiting for you.
— Really?
— But... She'll only give you if you ask her to make cool beans for dinner. That's the secret.
— Wait, before I get my cake, I need to ask her to make beans?
— Cool beans. Yes, that's all, then you get cake.
— Awesome!
The little dude ran off to have a cringe-worthy conversation with his mother.
NOTE: Despite adding maybe 30 seconds or so, I take the five-minute rule very seriously. Fitting a creative, but coherent story in such a short amount of time is very challenging. Here's my method: I read the prompt, set up a 5-min alarm, think of a small idea just to get started, start the alarm then make stuff up as I go. The result is often intriguing to myself, so I find this contest very pleasing!
