Here in the UK and Europe we are currently experiencing a heat wave. Not just a spot of warmer than usual weather but a full blown heat wave which makes me think this is more to do with global warming. I should probably expect to see this more often.

So this morning, I was thinking about the "good old days" of when it used to be very cold in the winter. On radio and TV they're broadcasting messages on how to keep cool and in a kind of ironic way maybe these photos can help to cool down the viewer while they're sweltering in 90 degree heat!

The Long and Winding Road, not to mention slippy

I remember standing on a small hillock with fadetoblack@fadetoblack freezing for an hour waiting for vehicles to pass by for the traffic trails. I was so cold it took my knees a few hours to warm up again after this!

The Road to Edale

A snowy, clear night stood half way up Mam Tor looking down on the road to Edale. But what I failed to account for is how many damn planes were in the sky. This was approx. a 1 hour sequence of 30 second exposures but I had to spend ages cloning out the plane trails!

Winnat's Pass

I travel around the UK quite a bit and find myself at odd times of day in far away places. I like to stop and take advantage of a shot seen and this was a quick drive by shooting. As I drive I'm always on the lookout for an image.

Geometrically modified sparkler

I realised a while back that some of my best shots (in my opinion) were taken in the middle of winter. I still regard this as a favourite and this involved a model and two lightpainters. First you shoot the silhouette, then pan the camera over around 30 degrees to the right and my lightpainting buddie, fadetoblack@fadetoblack spun a sparkler on a drill while I rotated the camera on a home made camera rotation device. This is only possible with a rotation device with a windy handle!

Freezing Fog and Lightpainting

It's not often I get lucky with the weather conditions as good as this but freezing fog is great for cinematic effects! The fog in Padley Gorge is never as good as this!

Never leave home without your beauty dish and smoke grenades...

We found this cool perforated steel wall in an abandonded building, made for light painting! It was cold....

Socially isolated selfie

One of the good things about winter is darker nights and on this night there was a clear sky. Great I thought, star trail time! Bag packed, belly full and off in the car 10 miles from home. Alight from car in eager anticipation of shooting star trails and bugger, the clouds have turned up. There's nothing like a cloud to ruin your evening....

Anyways, I changed course and knocked together this selfie shot in an abandoned railway cutting.

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
