This is my entry for the week 85 edition 3 contest on the subject which focuses on breaking the rules. Apparently there are so many rules in life either directly or indirectly. Rules can simply be put as sets of instructions or guide that keeps one in check until a task is achieved. There are rules we normally set for our selves as humans, there are also societal rules which focuses or guides the society so that things are done appropriately and decorum is maintained at the end. Rules can be flexible and not flexible depending on what one wants to achieve at the end.
I want to believe that at some point one would establish some sets of rules for direction and guidance purposes but might not be faithful in keeping them.
Breaking the rules could be deliberate or not deliberate.

I would like to share about the last rule I broke and perhaps share some experiences. The rule I could remember I broke amongst several others was when I was in still in secondary school. I was among the highly esteemed students in my days. When I was in senior class, a time came for selection of prefects that would be saddle with the responsibility of taking care of the school compound and other functions deem it fit by the management. This normally takes time because a committee is set to screen students before presenting them for adoption and lastly they will be presented to the general public for celebration.

After due deliberation and consultation, I was appointed as the library prefect. That wasn't the main matter but something really happened on the day of our swearing in ceremony where the tentative prefects would be finally recognised and confirmed. Hmmm with high expectations thinking I would be affirmed the librarian unfortunately my post was exchanged for a time keeper. Immediately after the declaration and ceremony, I quickly rushed home and consulted my books and I drafted a horrible letter addressed to the school authority demanding for explanation why I was changed to the position of a time keeper. I used some vulgar words which pissed off my principal. On receiving the letter, he sent me home on indefinite suspension and requested for parents to come over to the school.

Then I realised that something is wrong with me. I have broken a hedge and the school rule. I ought not to have written such letter to the principal. I would have followed the appropriate channel of communication. I couldn't consult any of my teachers neither did I demand for any explanation but went straight to the principal. Hmmmm that is wrong and bridge of communication.

Another scene I would like to share was when I broke a rule in a secondary school I was serving as a youth corp member. The management of the school agreed that any teacher that comes to school late latest 7:35am will be penalised with a token of ₦200. Then if you are absent you would be ₦500. I thought I could be faithful till the end but I could not keep it to the end. There was this day I came to school almost 8am automatically I was booked and deductions were made even iny little allowance then. I realised that when rules are broken, there's penalty for it.

CONCLUSION

After every rule I broke, I faced the consequences of such act . It caused me time, money, people and other things. Thank God I have learnt from such experience and hoping not to break rules again. Thanks.
